Rookie sensation Mike Trout tied a career high with five RBIs, including a three-run homer and a rare two-run sacrifice fly, and pinch-runner Peter Bourjos scored on a wild pitch in the ninth inning to give the Los Angeles Angels a 6-5 victory over the Seattle Mariners on Friday night. Kendrys Morales led off the ninth against Josh Kinney (0-2) with his second double of the game and was replaced by Bourjos. Alberto Callaspo was intentionally walked, and both runners advanced on Howie Kendrick's sacrifice. Another intentional pass to Erick Aybar brought up pinch-hitter Maicer Izturis, who watched Kinney's 1-2 pitch skip past catcher John Jaso. Angels closer Ernesto Frieri (1-0) earned his first American League win, striking out the side in the ninth on 13 pitches. Ervin Santana ended up with a fortunate no-decision after falling behind 5-0 in the third on a two-run homer by Dustin Ackley and a three-run shot by Jaso on a 3-0 pitch. The right-hander was charged with four ea...

Mike Trout robs another home run

He did it in Baltimore against J.J. Hardy. He did it in Chicago on a ball off the bat of Gordon Beckham. Last night Miguel Olivo became the latest victim to have a would-be home run brought back into the ballpark by the human highlight reel that is Los Angeles Angels outfielder Mike [...]

Another big night for Trout in Angels' win

ANAHEIM, Calif. He's been through these moments so many times already that it just seems like routine stuff to Mike Trout. But it's not. He hits home runs, steals bases, makes jaw-dropping catches and then smiles and shrugs his shoulders when he tries to describe them. His answers to questions are pretty much always the same: He's just trying to drive the ball up...

Top Play: Mike Trout HR robbing catch

The legend of Mike Trout continues to grow, as the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim center fielder made another amazing catch on Saturday night. Trout robbed Seattle Mariners catcher Miguel Olivo in the top of the eighth inning, jumping high over the centerfield wall to make a highlight reel play. Trout, the 25th player taken in the 2009 amateur draft, leads the American League with...

Mike Trout Is Having the Greatest Rookie Season of All Time, Could Become the Youngest MVP in History

By now, the most salient comparison that can be made between Mike Trout and Bryce Harper is that both are rookies. When they were both called up on the same day in late April, baseball people around the country hailed them as the next great pair of outfielders, destined to be forever linked by their shared future greatness. Well, Harper still has an incredibly bright future ahead...

M's overcome Trout's amazing grab

Mike Trout seems to steal the show even when the Los Angeles Angels lose. The rookie center fielder robbed Miguel Olivo of a two-run homer in the eighth inning Saturday night, but all that did was prevent the Seattle Mariners from increasing an early six-run lead they built against Dan Haren. Vernon Wells hit a two-run homer in the bottom half and Kendrys Morales added a solo shot...

Take Your Pick: Stanton, Trout, or Harper?

In Major League Baseball, the debate of which young phenom will have the better career is all the rage. These phenoms, of course, are Mike Trout of the Angels and Bryce Harper of the Nationals. Trout, who just turned 21, is the unanimous AL Rookie of the Year and perhaps MVP. He has almost single handedly turned around a struggling Angels team and continues to impress in every game...

Jim Leyland: Miguel Cabrera deserves MVP over ‘Wonderboy’ Mike Trout

Miguel Cabrera is having an outstanding season for the Tigers. It’s the type of season we have come to expect from the 29-year-old over his 13-year career. Cabrera has 29 homers to go along with 95 RBI. His batting average is an impressive .322 and his on-base percentage is a solid .384. There is still a lot of baseball left to be played, but Cabrera is a definite American League...

Machado Call Up a Gamble for O's

The Orioles have seen what the promotion of a big time prospect can do for a team. Mike Trout gave the Angels a major lift earlier this season, and it's something that has worked for many teams in the past. The question, however, is did Baltimore make the right move bringing Manny Machado to the big leagues now?

Today’s debate topic: As of TODAY, who would you pick as the AL MVP?

Rajai Davis with the catch of the year.

It may not be from the golden child of the season in Mike Trout, but Rajai Davis may have bested Trout in the catch of the year category.

Angels erase 5-run deficit to beat Mariners

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) -- Rookie sensation Mike Trout tied a career high with five RBIs, including a three-run homer and a rare two-run sacrifice fly, and pinch-runner Peter Bourjos scored on a wild pitch in the ninth inning to give the Los Angeles Angels a 6-5 victory over the Seattle Mariners on Friday night. Kendrys Morales led off the ninth against Josh Kinney (0-2) with his second...

BP Podcast: Episode 101: Let's Just Not Even Try by Kevin Goldstein

After our big celebration for Episode 100, we're back to normality, or at least as normal as the show gets. We talk about the Manny Machado call-up, some prospects that we are higher or lower than most on, and also just what to make of Austin Wood. Then we try to gauge Mike Trout's value (good luck) and talk about scouting little league games. Our special guest is a good...

Game Recap 8/11/12 -- EVERYBODY PANIC!!! -- Angels 4 Mariners 7

I know that I'm supposed to be an objective reporter of the games I cover. I'm supposed to assess the situation rationally and try to take the fanatic aspect of my recaps. SCREW THAT...I'm freaking out over here. What the hell is going on with this team? Can someone please explain how a collection of highly paid ballplayers can deliver such a heaping pile of dung on...
