Angels place LHP Downs on DL with shoulder strain

The Los Angeles Angels placed reliever Scott Downs on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday because of a strained left shoulder. To take Downs' place in the bullpen, the Angels recalled left-hander Hisanori Takahashi from Triple-A Salt Lake City, where he had been optioned Saturday. This season, Downs has matched his career high with nine saves. He also leads the team with 17 holds...

How Much Does Zack Greinke Improve the Angels?

On Friday night, the Angels landed the big prize of this trade deadline season, acquiring Zack Greinke from Milwaukee in exchange for shortstop Jean Segura and pitchers Ariel Pena and John Hellweg. Given all that the Angels have invested in their current club, pushing the team forward with another big upgrade makes sense on paper. In fact, given that they’ve cut the Rangers lead...

Have the Cardinals missed Pujols?

When Albert Pujols signed this past off-season with the Angels, the Cardinals responded by signing Carlos Beltran. The Beltran signing turned out to be a stroke of brilliance as the future Hall of Fame outfielder has had a great season. The Beltran signing also meant at the time that Lance Berkman would slide back to first where he is best suited and Berkman could deliver offense...

Angels' Morales homers from both sides of plate in same inning

Los Angeles Angels designated hitter Kendrys Morales was just looking to break out of a slump when he made some history. The switch-hitting Morales hit two home runs -- one from each side of the plate -- and drove in six runs during the Angels' nine-run explosion in the sixth inning Monday against the Texas Rangers. The six-RBI inning is a club record, one short of the American...

Morales homers from both side of plate in 1 inning

Los Angeles Angels switch-hitter Kendrys Morales homered from both sides of the plate in the same inning Monday night, making him the third player in major league history to accomplish the feat. Morales connected for a tiebreaking, two-run shot in the sixth as a lefty off Texas starter Roy Oswalt. Morales then hit a grand slam off Robbie Ross that capped a nine-run inning. Carlos...

Late blown leads prevent Angels' third straight win over Rangers

The Los Angeles Angels were close enough to feel it. Twice in Wednesday night's game, they were within two outs of closing out a third consecutive victory over the first-place Rangers. That would have moved the Angels within two games of Texas, their thinnest margin since April 11, just five games into the season. But Ernesto Frieri blew his first save as an Angel in the...

Angels Player Power Rankings - Week 17

As always, the rankings are based on a player's overall season performance with a weight on recent performance. RANK PLAYER CHANGE COMMENTS 1 -- 0Last Week: 1 Mike Trout - This was arguably a week-long slump for Trout.  He still posted a .768 OPS over that span. 2 -- 0Last Week: 2 Jered Weaver - For only the second time this season (not including...

Checking the Bottom Line on the Greinke Trade

It’s not yet time to close the books on the Zack Greinke trade of a year and a half ago. That day won’t come for a long time. But now is a great time to check the bottom line, to begin to gauge who is coming out better on the trade – the Royals or Brewers. It will be years before we can judge just what the Royals let get away in Greinke, what they got in return in Lorenzo...

Morales blasts switch-hit HRs

Los Angeles Angels switch-hitter Kendrys Morales homered from both sides of the plate in the same inning Monday night, making him the third player in major league history to accomplish the feat. Morales connected for a tiebreaking, two-run shot in the sixth as a lefty off Texas starter Roy Oswalt. Morales then hit a grand slam off Robbie Ross that capped a nine-run inning. Carlos...

Weaver keeps Rangers' hitters at a loss

ARLINGTON, Texas On a day when the Rangers made a major pitching acquisition, they saw first-hand what a strong pitching performance can do for a team. Unfortunately for the Rangers, that pitching performance came from the Angels' Jered Weaver. Weaver shut out the Rangers for the first six innings Tuesday to lift the Angels to a 6-2 win. Weaver won his eighth consecutive...

Should the Angels trade for some offense too?

Admittedly, the following post would've made a lot more sense had it been posted before last night's Kendrys Morales-led 15-run outburst, but the points remain (mostly) valid. So caught up have the Angels and their fans been in their furor to plug the hole in their rotation that it has gone almost unnoticed that the Halo lineup still isn't exactly performing at optimum...

Battle of the West

Mike Trout (Photo credit: Wikipedia) There is a huge battle in the American League West. The Texas Rangers and the Los Angeles Angels. This division is heating up. Lets start off with the Texas Rangers. The Texas Rangers might look like they are in control of the AL West division, but the Los Angeles Angels are right on their tails.  The Rangers are sitting on a very good record...

Rangers fan ejected for delaying game with Texas flag and flash camera (Video)

A Texas Rangers fan was ejected from Rangers Ballpark in Arlington after causing a disturbance which caused a brief delay in Wednesday night's game against the Los Angeles Angels. DISCLAIMER: Holdout Sports does not condone this kind of behavior. It happened in the top of the 10th inning as Joe Nathan was preparing to pitch to Angels batter Albert Pujols. The Rangers...
