ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Torii Hunter hit a walk-off sacrifice fly in the ninth inning against embattled Boston closer Alfredo Aceves to give the Los Angeles Angels a 6-5 win over the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday night. The Angels, who swept three games from the Red Sox at Fenway Park last week, snapped a two-game losing streak to stay within 4 1/2 games of the Oakland Athletics and Baltimore Orioles for the second wild-card berth in the American League. Mike Trout continued his MVP campaign with three hits, including a home run, his 25th of the season. Trout also drove in the game-tying run in the ninth inning against Aceves, setting up Hunter's heroics. Clay Buchholz allowed four runs in seven innings for the Red Sox, and he is 7-2 with a 2.89 ERA in his last 14 starts. Buchholz left with a lead, but that vanished when the Halos rallied in the ninth. Aceves (2-9), who was suspended by the Red Sox for three games for conduct detrimental to the team, returned Tuesday and pitched...

Alfredo Aceves' Suspension Proof That Red Sox Not Joking About Becoming More Disciplined (Video)

The Red Sox bullpen has been taxed lately, but one hurler who's currently being forced to watch from home is Alfredo Aceves. Aceves was suspended three games by the Red Sox over the weekend for "conduct detrimental to the team." He'll even be forced to join the Sox in California this week, rather than flying out on the team's plane with the rest of the club...

Alfredo Aceves not allowed on Red Sox team flight during suspension

The Red Sox seem to be pretty serious about enforcing a suspension for pitcher Alfredo Aceves. Aceves was suspended three games on Saturday for conduct detrimental to the team after throwing a fit when he wasn’t used to close out Friday’s 4-3 win over the Royals. He reportedly stormed out of manager Bobby Valentine’s office on Friday night after Andrew Bailey pitched the 9th...

Torii Hunter Jr. discusses Prosper's preseason preparations, and recent interest from Texas.

Back from suspension, Aceves blows another save

Four nights after throwing a temper tantrum that resulted in a suspension, embattled Boston Red Sox closer Alfredo Aceves imploded on the mound. Having been reinstated to the roster, and with Andrew Bailey unavailable to pitch the ninth inning, Aceves was asked to get a six-out save in a one-run game Tuesday night against the Los Angeles Angels. He breezed through the eighth inning...

Alfredo Aceves Could Lose Closer's Role After Being Suspended by Team

BOSTON -- Alfredo Aceves received a three-game suspension over the weekend after complaining about not closing a game. Now, the pitcher's full-time closing role could be in jeopardy the rest of the season. Before Monday's game against the Royals, Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine maintained that he hadn't "made that determination" on whether Aceves would lose...

Your Morning Dump...where Valentine defends Aceves' appearance

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here... highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump.  The choice proved ill-fated when, after retiring the side in order in the eighth, Aceves allowed two runs in the bottom of the ninth, costing the Sox their lead and the game, a 6-5 walkoff loss to the Los...

Alfredo Aceves Leaves Red Sox 'California Screaming' After Blowing Another Save Against Angels (Video)

Another day, another dose of drama for the Boston Red Sox. Alfredo Aceves blew his second straight save to the Angels, this time allowing Torii Hunter to walk off a winner after failing to convert a two-inning opportunity. It couldn't have come at a worse time for the reliever, fresh off of a three-game suspension for conduct detrimental to the team. His conduct on the mound...

Angels are keeping their hope alive

ANAHEIM, Calif. -- There is still life in the Angels. Not a lot mind you, but enough to keep them pushing forward, watching the standings, looking for an edge. Stranger things have happened. "I saw St. Louis do it," Torii Hunter said Tuesday night. "They were 11 games back last year (and won the World Series). And in 2006 when I was with the Twins, we were 8 games...

Aceves blows another lead as Angels rally past Red Sox

ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Torii Hunter hit a walk-off sacrifice fly in the ninth inning against embattled Boston closer Alfredo Aceves to give the Los Angeles Angels a 6-5 win over the Red Sox on Tuesday night. Aceves Is Back: Blown Save And All

The Red Sox headed to LA and looked like they were on their way to a win, however Aceves was not able to get a 6 out save and got another blown save on the season. Clay Buchholz took the mound for the Sox and had himself a nice outing.  Buchholz started out the outing giving up a leadoff homerun to Mike Trout.  Trout just killed the ball.  Sox 0-1.  Clay gave up a single and...

Andrew Bailey Should Get Shot at Closing Regardless of Alfredo Aceves' Suspension (Video)

Andrew Bailey was brought in to be the Red Sox closer this season, and only injuries have kept him from it. Now that he's healthy, however, he's been easing into that role -- much to the chagrin of Alfredo Aceves. Aceves earned himself a three-game suspension from the team after getting upset about Bailey closing, to the point where his hold on the closer role might be in...

Red Sox put Morales on DL, reinstate Aceves

The Boston Red Sox placed left-handed pitcher Franklin Morales on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to August 24, with left shoulder inflammation and reinstated right-handed pitcher Alfredo Aceves to the active roster. Aceves, who had been suspended for three games for behavior detrimental to the team, was available for Tuesday's game against the Angels. Morales, 26...

Red Sox News & Notes - 8/29

When Boston Red Sox skipper Bobby Valentine suspended Alfredo Aceves last week, it was because he threw a hissy fit after being passed over for Andrew Bailey in a save situation. So with Aceves returning from suspension last night, we still didn't have a clue as to whether or not he'd be given another chance or if Bailey, the man they acquired for the closer's role...

Bottom of the Ninth: Alfredo Sauced

Bobby Valentine opted to go with Andrew Bailey over Alfredo Aceves for the save on Friday night. Initially, I thought it was because Alfie had thrown 37 pitches the night before, but Aceves disagreed. No, this time it was personal. So personal, in fact, that Alfredo let his feelings be known that night and got into a shouting match with the Red Sox manager. Bobby V. will put up with...
