By John Taylor - AngelsWin.com Red Onion Contributor San Juan Capistrano, CA – After getting off to a fast start, the Los Angeles Angels All-Star karaoke team failed to capture the Grand Champions Trophy at the 5th annual “Bob’s Pizza and Yogurt All-Star Karaoke Jam.” The team got off to a strong start, with ace Jared Weaver singing a rendition of Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin,” followed by Torii Hunter, and his version of Steppenwolf’s legendary “Born to Be Wild.” The 1-2 punch of Weaver/Hunter proved to be too strong for their 1st round opponents from Fountain Bowl. In the second round Kendrys Morales was one again clutch, battling through Survivor’s “Eye of the Tiger,” but it would get a little dicey later in the round when he handed off to Albert Pujols, who attempted all 8 minutes and 33 seconds of Don McLean’s “American Pie.” Halfway through the song Albert appeared to re-injure his hamstring, and karaoke team manager Mike Scioscia had to put in pinch-singe

Angels' Wilson to have elbow surgery

Los Angeles Angels left-hander C.J. Wilson will have elbow surgery after the regular season to remove bone spurs. Wilson said Tuesday that no date has been set for the surgery. Wilson threw his final game of the regular season on Monday night and got the victory in the Angels' 8-4 victory. Wilson finished the season with a career-best 34 starts and went 13-10 with a 3.83 ERA...

Morales has 'held up fine' for Angels, Scioscia says

The Los Angeles Angels had no idea what they could expect from Kendrys Morales this season. Not after nearly two years and two surgeries to repair the fractured ankle he suffered on May 29, 2010. "Coming in (to spring training) and talking to the medical staff, there was concern: Was this guy going to play 50 games or was he going to play 130 games?" manager Mike Scioscia...

What is Dan Haren Worth on the Open Market?

News broke last week that Angels pitcher Dan Haren will most likely hit the open market this winter; it’s rumored that the Angels are planning on declining Haren’s option after the season. Haren will be one of the top pitchers on the open market, behind teammate Zack Greinke. The question is: What is Haren worth on the open market? First, let’s look at what Haren has done...

Trout 1st rookie with 30 HRs, 30 steals

Angels center fielder Mike Trout has become the first major league rookie ever with 30 home runs and 40 stolen bases. Trout hit his 30th homer Sunday, a two-out solo shot in the seventh inning at Texas off Yu Darvish. The 21-year-old Trout had a leadoff walk to start the game, then quickly got his 48th stolen base. Only two players in the majors have ever had 30 homers and 50...

Mike Trout dressed as a baby for rookie hazing (Photo)

You would think that Angels rookie outfielder Mike Trout for his contributions on the field would be able to get out of some rookie hazing. However, even Trout couldn't get out of Los Angeles rookie hazing. Check out baby Trout: (Courtesy of The Outside Corner)

Inconsistency and Missed Opportunities

By Robert Cunningham - AngelsWin.com Columnist Whether it was rotation issues, hitting woes, or a shaky bullpen, the title, above, effectively summarizes the Angels 2012 season. Here is a sample of what went wrong: 1) An early April slump that saw the Angels go 6-14 in their first 20 games. If they had even played .400 baseball that would be 2 more wins on the season.2) Offensively...

Greinke pitches part of game in wrong uniform

ARLINGTON, Texas The Texas Rangers had better luck Sunday against Zack Grienke than they did against Zack Greinke. Greinke pitched the first part of Sunday's game with his last name misspelled on the back of his jersey. The spelling on the back of it was Grienke as he allowed four runs in three innings. Greinke changed jersey between innings and maybe that changed his fortune...

Mike Napoli, and What Ownership Could Look Like

When the Angels traded actual value(!) for the overwhelming bulk of Vernon Wells‘ contract(!), it didn’t look like there were very many ways by which the Angels could come away looking smart. There were more ways by which the Angels could come away feeling content, though, like if Wells performed well enough, even if not well enough to be worth his salary. These days the Angels...

Wild-card hopeful Angels rally to win 5-4 at Texas

(Eds: Angels 5, Rangers 4. With AP Photos.) By STEPHEN HAWKINS AP Sports Writer Torii Hunter hit a two-run double with two outs in the ninth inning, and the Los Angeles Angels boosted their wild-card chances by rallying past the AL West-leading Texas Rangers 5-4 in the opener of a day-night doubleheader Sunday. Hunter's double into the left-center gap came off Joe Nathan (3...

Angels 8, Mariners 4

Mike Trout had four hits and drove in three runs in Los Angeles' 8-4 victory over the Seattle Mariners on Monday night but it was not enough to keep the Angels in the playoff chase. The Angels, with a high payroll and high expectations as the season started, were eliminated from the wild-card race after the Oakland Athletics' 4-3 victory over the Texas Rangers on Monday...

Haren, Angels shut down by Mariners

SEATTLE (AP) -- Kyle Seager became the first Seattle batter to hit 20 home runs in a season since 2009 with a solo shot in the first inning and the Mariners beat Mike Trout and the Los Angeles Angels 6-1 on Tuesday night. The penultimate game of the season came a night after the Angels were eliminated from the AL wild card chase. And they played like a team with nothing tangible...

Angels, offseason winners, became regular-season also-rans

Being champions of the winter has not panned out well for recent teams like the Boston Red Sox, Philadelphia Phillies or Seattle Mariners, who made big offseason acquisitions only to fall flat when the games started. Add the Los Angeles Angels to that list. Despite spending $320 million in the biggest one-day free agent splurge in baseball history, then adding a former Cy Young...
