Los Angeles Angels catcher Chris Iannetta will be out six to eight weeks because of an injury to his right wrist. Without specifying the exact injury, the Angels announced Thursday that Iannetta will undergo surgery Friday. Iannetta has been playing with the injury since getting hit by a pitch during his first at-bat May 2. He stayed in the game and caught Jered Weaver's no-hitter against Minnesota. Before his injury, Iannetta had been a solid addition to the Angels' lineup since arriving in an offseason trade with Colorado. The veteran catcher is in a 2-for-25 slump and hasn't managed a hit since his injury. His average has dropped to .197 with three homers and nine RBIs. Bobby Wilson is Iannetta's backup.

Angels' Iannetta out 6-8 weeks

Angels begin important series with Texas down Morales, Iannetta

ARLINGTON, Texas The Angels won't have designated hitter Kendrys Morales for at least one game, and possibly two, of their most important series of the season. Morales, who missed all of last season while recovering from a broken left ankle he suffered in May 2010, reported a sore left Achilles tendon and was not in the starting lineup Friday for the Angels' series opener...

Albert Pujols throws glove at Erick Aybar during postgame handshakes (Video)

Your browser does not support iframes. There was an unusual moment during the Angels’ postgame handshake lineup on Wednesday night. After beating the Twins 6-2, the Angels players lined up for handshakes and high-fives to celebrate the win. For some reason, Albert Pujols chucked his glove at teammate Erick Aybar. The move was strange and made Pujols look like a jerk, but SI injury...

Albert Pujols throws glove at Erick Aybar

After last night's 6-2 Angels win over the Twins, as the Angels are doing their postgame handshakes, shortstop Erick Aybar taps first baseman Albert Pujols on the elbow. Pujols proceeds to whip his glove at Aybar, and looks really, really irritated afterwards, inspecting his elbow. It's worth noting that the elbow that Aybar tapped was the one that Pujols has had problems...

BP Unfiltered: People and Entities Out-Walking Albert Pujols by Sam Miller

Pardon me for hitting this point again and again, but it's by far the most fascinating part of Albert Pujols' season so far. Anybody can go into a home run drought; the difference between a home run and a flyout is, what, the width of a cuticle? It's very easy for a home-run hitter to not hit a home run. They do it all the time. But to not walk is just so deliberate...

Game Recap 5/9: I get by with a little help from my friends - Angels 6, Twins 2

Welcome to the club, Ervin Santana! Angels 6, Twins 2 Tonight's offense finally gave the struggling Santana run support and his first win of the season. Teamwork, go figure. I really like what I've been seeing from Mike Trout. As I have mentioned previously, Trout is the epitome of Angels baseball.  He makes watching the game that much more exciting and I cannot wait to...

As our mike slowly bleeds

I have to admit that my thoughts and opinion concerning Mr. Scioscia have changed as the season has gone on.  I’m an Angel fan and a fan of Scioscia, appreciative of all he has done for the organization.  Still, truth be told, as the losses have built up nearly as fast as the number of lineups, my esteem has decayed.  Kind of like an Angel on one shoulder and a Devil on the...

Wilson returns to Texas for first time as an Angel

Under better circumstances, the Angels would be pointing toward their three-game series with the Texas Rangers with a sense of anticipation. That's probably not how they're feeling right now. Rather than preparing for a head-to-head scrum against their American League West nemesis, the Angels are hopeful they can trim away some of their seven-game deficit and climb out of...

Willingham solid but Twins fall to Angels

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- Ervin Santana pitched 7 1-3 innings and got some run support from the Los Angeles Angels offense for the first time in his past six starts in a 6-2 victory over the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday night. Santana (1-6) gave up two runs and six hits and Albert Pujols had two hits and two RBIs for the Angels, who took two of three from the Twins. Mike Trout had two...

How Should Texas Rangers Fans Treat C.J. Wilson Tonight?

C.J. Wilson returns to Rangers Ballpark in Arlington tonight to oppose the only franchise he had ever played for prior to this season. I am curious how Rangers fans will treat him, and I’m curious how other people think they should treat him. And I’m curious, in general, what the “protocol” should be in cases such as this when a player who isn’t especially well-liked, but...

Do you hate losing as much as Garrett and Scott?

Maybe you do hate losing to the Rangers just as much if not more so than myself and Garrett.  But here's the real measure of an irate fan, do you vent your frustrations over twitter?  If not, sit back and learn how to get it all out in cyber space for God and everyone (including the players) to see.I'm going to give it to you Quentin Tarentino style, which is to say I&...

The Bourjos Inquires

The Peter Bourjos trade rumors have started to circulate again. The primary discussant in the linked article is the Nationals, but the Royals, Diamondbacks, and Blue Jays are also mentioned. With super-prospect Mike Trout in the majors, the Angels already having something of an outfield crunch and Bourjos flat-lining on offense so far this season, there is a surface rationality...

An Angel Gets His Slings

Finally, an injury to an Angel that can clear up the awful logjam between OF/DH/3B.  Oh wait, it’s to their catcher – Chris Iannetta – where their ‘depth’ involves Bobby Wilson, an injured Hank Conger and sub-Mathis scrubs.  Maybe they should try Mark Trumbo at catcher.  He’s gotta be better there than at 3B.  Chris Iannetta anagrams to Neat Christian – how fitting...
