GAME 102 - ANGELS AT MARINERS
SEATTLE – It might have been fun while it lasted, but the Angels’ hold on first place in the A.L. West was short-lived, their 3-1 loss to the Seattle Mariners before 45,974 at Safeco Field dropping them back into second place, a game behind the Mariners.
Angels starter Jarrod Washburn saw the end to his personal 12-game winning streak, but it wasn’t because he didn’t pitch well. Washburn (12-3) pitched a complete game, allowing all three runs but only four hits.
The big blow was a two-run home run by Edgar Martinez in the fourth inning.
The Angels out-hit the Mariners, getting nine hits, including two each from David Eckstein and Brad Fullmer. But they failed to come up with clutch hits, going 1 for 7 with runners in scoring position.
Mariners starter Joel Pineiro improved to 11-4, allowing only a sacrifice fly by Adam Kennedy in 6 1/3 innings.

Albert Pujols will likely sit out the rest of the season after suffering a partial tear of the plantar fascia in his left foot Friday night an injury that forced the Angels slugger to the 15-day disabled list Sunday.
Manager Mike Scioscia said that Pujols who hit .258 with 17 home runs and 64 runs batted in despite being hobbled all season by the painful condition will be out "...
Breaking trade news: the A’s have acquired infielder Alberto Callaspo from the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim for Grant Green.
Word broke minutes ago, and was confirmed even more recently:

An already tough season for the Los Angeles Angels just got even tougher.
The Angels announced that Albert Pujols was placed on the 15-day disabled list on Sunday with a partially torn plantar fascia in his left foot. L.A. manager Mike Scioscia said that Pujols would be out for “a significant amount of time,” and possibly the remainder of the season.
His left foot was bothering...
In what initially seemed like deja-vu, the Los Angeles Angels seemed to be duplicating their season of a year ago. It was then when they stole the headlines, signing free agent Albert Pujols and LHP CJ Wilson. This made a very good team seem better as the Angels were the favorites to win the AL West division. The Angels started out 2012 by going 8-15, but were 26-26 by the end of...

Per Danny Knobler of CBS Sports, Albert Pujols may not play another game during the remainder of the 2013 season. Pujols is suffering from plantar fasciitis and is expected to miss a significant amount of time. The only cure for this issue is rest and lots of it. The only way for the team to know how long he will be out for is to take it by a week-by-week basis.
Mark Trumbo is expected...
Los Angeles manager Mike Scioscia has been ejected from the Angels' game at Texas.
Scioscia went out to argue a play at first base when slow-footed Geovany Soto was called safe on a close play in the second inning Tuesday night. Crew chief Jerry Layne, who was at first base, heard only a few words from an irate Scioscia before tossing the manager from the game.
Layne then stood...
The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim continued dealing a day after trading Scott Downs, and have sent third baseman Alberto Callaspo to the Oakland Athletics in exchange for Grant Green. Callaspo will play second base for Oakland.
This trade is more than a rental for Oakland, as Callaspo is signed through next year, when he'll make $4.875 million. The 30-year old only extensively...

I keep seeing tons of internet chatter from Angels fans about selling off the teams spare parts to make them better......eventually.
Yet a bad loss tonight and many are still pissed even with little doubt about the outcome of this season.
On top of that, we traded a 38yo middle relief lefty specialist about to become a FA...
Seeking an upgrade offensively against right-handed pitching, the Oakland A's acquired switch-hitting infielder Alberto Callaspo from the Los Angeles Angels. The price for Callaspo was a steep one, as A's 2009 first-round pick Grant Green was sent back to Anaheim.
This was one of those games that define a season, just when the Angels look like they're hot and unstoppable they hit a brick wall, hard. The Angels jumped to a quick 5-0 lead by the 2nd inning, Hanson wasn't looking nearly as implosive as usual and the hitting was red hot. Nothing could stop these guys. No one.
Except themselves that is.
Inept pitching by Tommy Hanson...
The Atlanta Braves acquired the left-handed reliever they've been coveting, picking up Scott Downs from the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in exchange for minor leaguer Cory Rasmus. The 37-year old Downs is in the final year of a three-year, $15 million contract he signed with the Angels prior to the 2011 season Downs is the second reliever to be traded today, following the...
Jered Weaver finally figured out a way to pitch well in the Texas heat and it all went to waste. Jered was every bit the ace that Texas had hoped Matt Garza would be for them. Even with the Angels playoff hopes long since stamped out in the dirt, having Weaver outduel Garza would've been a nice bit of consolation, but it just wasn't meant to be.
Well, technically speaking...
