Thursday was a night for key pieces to the Angels' big league club to begin rehab assignments. Out since June 26th for surgery to remove a blood clot in his armpit, left-hander Jason Vargas made a rehabilitation start for triple-A Salt Lake. Joining him on that journey is center fielder Peter Bourjos, who has been sidelined since June 30th because of a broken bone in his right wrist. Vargas allowed four earned runs and four hits, including three home runs, striking out two and walking three against Round Rock. Vargas threw 72 pitches, 42 for strikes, which is probably enough for him to make his next start with the Angels. #Angels LH Jason Vargas completes rehab start for triple-A Salt Lake vs. Round Rock: 4.2 IP, 4 H, 4 ER, 3 BB, 2 Ks, 3 HRs. 72 Ps, 42 strikes — Mike DiGiovanna (@MikeDiGiovanna) August 9, 2013 The team will evaluate him Friday before determining when he returns. He is 6-4 with a 3.65 ERA. Bourjos went one for five with a run-scoring single and a left-center field running catch that was pretty deep as he is known and popular for doing. He'll remain with Salt Lake at least through the weekend. #Angels CF Peter Bourjos went 1 for 5 with RBI 1B and a nice running catch in deep LCF in first game of rehab stint with triple-A Salt Lake. — Mike DiGiovanna (@MikeDiGiovanna) August 9, 2013 There is a chance he could join the Angels in New York on Monday night. He is hitting .333 in 40 games this season. Follow JDC on Twitter @6JDC9! Follow @mlbinjurynews Looking for fantasy baseball advice?

Indians, Angels each trying to end four-game losing streak

Jered Weaver has been stellar in an otherwise disappointing season for the Los Angeles Angels, who haven't won since the last time their ace took the mound. That slump seemingly has a good chance of coming to an end given Weaver's stellar road history against the Cleveland Indians, as he opposes former Angel Scott Kazmir on Friday night with each club looking to end a four...

Jack Clark Says He Knows for a Fact Albert Pujols Was on PEDs

I am sure the Angels wishes he gets back on whatever stuff he is being accused of taking. Jack Clark says it is a fact, but it definitely hearsay from a third-party. Here is what he had to say courtesy of The Saint Louis Post Dispatch courtesy of The Big Lead. Clark has brought Pujols’ situation up at least twice already on the air. The first time, after Slaten said last Friday...

Albert Pujols Says He’s Going to Sue Jack Clark For Saying He’s on PEDS

Curious if Pujols actually sues or is this just lip service. “I’ve said time and time again that I would never take, or even consider taking, anything illegal. I’ve been tested hundreds of times throughout my career and never once have I tested positive. It is irresponsible and reckless for Jack Clark to have falsely accused me of using PED’s. My faith in Jesus Christ, and...

McDonnell Podcast: Mike Trout & Howie Kendrick

Monday was quite a bizarre day at Angels Stadium in Anaheim. On the visitor's side, the Texas Rangers were alternately answering -- then fending off -- questions about Nelson Cruz's suspension for allegedly using PED's. In the home clubhouse, the atmosphere was exactly the opposite. The players were sitting at their lockers or gathered on the couch watching the televisions...

The sound of victory; Angels defeat Indians 5-2

(Warning: weird, tangent filled recap coming. Let's face it, these games mean nothing. Why bother you with what happened. If you're curious, see the game notes after the jump) There are some real advantages to east coast games when the team you root for is just playing out the string. First, the games end earlier so you have more time to recover from the losses or bask...

Will Justin Verlander also pursue legal action against Jack Clark?

Today it was announced that Angels first baseman Albert Pujols would pursue legal action against Jack Clark after the former MLB slugger (and now former radio host) made allegations that Pujols used PEDs. ALBERT PUJOLS PURSUING LEGAL ACTION AGAINST JACK CLARK FOR PED ACCUSATIONS  Clark though didn’t stop in his claims with Pujols. He also named former MLB outfielder Shawn Green...

Second Thoughts Game #116: Angels 5, Indians 2

Kazmir getting tired While we may have denied or even forgotten about the fact that this is Scott Kazmir’s first full season as a big league starter since 2010 and that he may have a point in the season where he begins to tire or his arm and shoulder may show signs of stress. Of course the same is true for any major leaguer due to the six-month long marathon that is...

Series Preview: Angels at Indians 8/9-11

Things couldn't get much worse for the Tribe, coming out of a four game sweep at the hands of division rival Detroit, but they will have to pull themselves back together for any chance at the playoffs this season. They will make their next move against the sub .500 Angels who currently reside in a solid fourth place in the American League West. While they haven't played up...
