Mark Trumbo is a man on the move. Trumbo started in right field Tuesday for the first time this year, and the second time in his career, and he went 1-for-4 Tuesday in the Los Angeles Angels' 5-0 loss at Tampa Bay. It was his fifth consecutive start at a fifth different position. Trumbo has gone from designated hitter to left field to third base to first base to right field in the past five games. Playing time for the young slugger (displaced from first base by the signing of Albert Pujols last winter) has come in a burst. He started just five of the Angels' first 12 games this season -- three times at third base and twice at DH. But manager Mike Scioscia said the playing time has more to do with pitching matchups than any sudden motivation to get Trumbo, a right-handed hitter, in the lineup. The Angels have faced left-handed starting pitchers in four of their past five games, and seven of Trumbo's 10 starts have come against lefties. The Angels' desire to tran...

How much trouble are the Angels in?

It’s April 26th, so it’s just too early to jump to any conclusions based on what has happened thus far in 2012. There are 140+ games still to go in the season, and as we’ve seen before, the standings at the end of April often don’t look like the standings at the end of September. Three weeks of baseball shouldn’t have changed our minds too much about what we believed to...

Albert Pujols really sucks in 2012 Meme

The Anaheim Angels right now are one atrocious MLB Baseball team. As far as I see it we can blame it all on Albert Pujols. They have no setup pitchers, aging talent everywhere, and some massive bum named Vernon Wells. Lets not get it twisted, Vernon Wells is much worse than Pujols  its just Pujols makes $25 Million a year…..wait Wells makes $14 Million. Well at least Mike Scioscia...

Pujols struggles to adjust to new league, pitchers

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.--Throughout spring training, Angels first baseman Albert Pujols downplayed speculation that it might be difficult to adjust to a new league and a new set of pitchers after spending his first 11 seasons with the St. Louis Cardinals. All the National League pitchers were new to Pujols when he broke into the big leagues in 2001, Pujols reasoned, and that wasnt...

Pebble Hunting: Albert Pujols Never Walks by Sam Miller

In a press conference at the Winter Meetings, Angels GM Jerry Dipoto was asked why Albert Pujols was worth a long-term deal when so many other stars have disappointed. Here’s Dipoto: I'll say this, that in regard to the evolution of a hitter, as hitters begin to age, into their 30s, to whatever point you can project, there's a certain quality or trait in a hitter...

Game Recap 4/24/12 -- Let's Just Call Up Trout Already - Rays 5 Angels 0

Come on now, come on guys. Seriously, there's no way this is happening for real guys. No way Santana goes and gives up 4 home runs in 5 innings to add to his terrible losing streak which has now extended to four games. His ERA is so horribly ugly that's I intentionally won't write it just to save you from the horrors that would be sure to come if you laid your eyes on...

Pujols' homerless start just part of Angels' woes

(Eds: APNewsNow. Will be updated. With AP Photos.) By GREG BEACHAM AP Sports Writer Albert Pujols has hit soaring fly balls that died on the warning track. He has hit several liners deep into the gaps, and he produced a smoking drive that barely caught the top of the left-field wall. Yet during his 16 games with the Los Angeles Angels, the $240 million slugger still hasn't cleared...

Five reasons why the Angels are struggling

Coming into the 2012 season, the Los Angeles Angels were the most hyped team in baseball following the signings of Albert Pujols and CJ Wilson. After 18 games, the Angels are in the basement of the AL West with a 6-12 record. Only the pathetic Twins and Royals have worse records in the AL. Their -10 run differential is fourth worst in the AL, behind the aforementioned Twins and Royals...

What You Need to Know: Thursday, April 26 by Daniel Rathman

The Wednesday Takeaway When the Angels added Albert Pujols and C.J. Wilson this offseason, general manager Jerry DiPoto and owner Arte Moreno were hoping to change the landscape of the AL West, to instantly turn a team that finished 10 games behind the Rangers in the division last year into a contender. After a 3-2 loss to the Rays yesterday—coupled with a 7-3 Rangers win...

Angels struggling with bullpen woes

While the Los Angeles Angels have struggled across the board in the early going, the bullpen may be the club's biggest long-term issue. Coming into Tuesday's game against Tampa Bay, Angels relievers had a cumulative 5.08 earned-run average.

Angels-Rays Preview

While the Los Angeles Angels had a mostly successful weekend, it was a miserable three days at the plate for Albert Pujols. The slugger will try again to get on track when the Angels open a three-game road series against the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday night. Los Angeles took two of three from Baltimore over the weekend, though it couldn't complete the sweep Sunday, losing 3...
