The Los Angeles Angels have scratched Ervin Santana and Jered Weaver from their final two starts of the season.
Los Angeles manager Mike Scioscia's decision Tuesday likely means Detroit's Justin Verlander will win the AL's pitching triple crown, holding off Weaver for the league ERA title.
Verlander, a 24-game winner and the AL strikeouts leader, has a 2.40 ERA to Weaver's 2.41.
Texas eliminated the Angels from contention for the AL wild card on Monday night. Santana was scheduled to start Tuesday night against the Rangers, and Weaver was slated to go after his 19th victory in the season finale on Wednesday.
Weaver pitched a career-high 235 2-3 innings, going 18-8 while yielding just 63 earned runs in 33 starts.
