The Los Angeles Angels announced on Friday that outfielder Bobby Abreu has been released.

Abreu hit .208 in 24 at-bats for Los Angeles this season.

Abreu, 38, appeared in 456 games with the Angels over the last three-plus seasons, batting .267 with 43 home runs and 246 RBI.

Last year, he hit .253 with eight home runs and 60 RBI in 585 at-bats.

His streak of 150 games played ended in 13 consecutive seasons. That matched Willie Mays' major-league record (1954-66).

Abreu also had at least 20 stolen bases in 13 straight seasons ending 2011, the longest active streak in the majors.

The Venezuelan native is one of four players all-time with at least 500 doubles, 250 home runs and 350 stolen bases (Barry Bonds, Rickey Henderson and Craig Biggio are the others). He is the only player in MLB history to get 20 homers, 20 steals and 40 doubles in a season five times.

In 2,255 career games, Abreu has batted .293 with 1,413 runs scored, 284 home runs, 1,330 RBI and 393 stolen bases.

He ranks eighth among active players with 2,389 hits.
