Pujols' debut in Anaheim nothing special

ANAHEIM - None of this really matters, at least not until Friday, but when Albert Pujols walked up to the plate with the bases loaded in the third inning Monday night, it might as well have been the real thing. The Angels brought Pujols to Anaheim and signed him for 240 million over the next 10 seasons -- for these kinds of moments. Why wait until the regular season to see how...

Figuring out the final spots on the Angels roster

Almost... there...  Opening Day is so, very close for the Angels but they do have a few housekeeping matters to tend to before Friday.  Namely, they must decide on the final bench and rotation spots.  Not exactly the most scintillating topic, but a necessary one nonetheless.  So who's going to make the team and who's going to get a pat on the back accompanied by a one...

Giant Noodle Returns to Wrigley

When a giant noodle shows up in front of Wrigley Field on April Fools Day you hold out hope that this is just some sort of prank. No such luck. And so it appears that the big noodle will be back to cheer on your Chicago Cubs.  Of course this noodle is much better than the one from 2010. This one is complete with fake bacon on top. (yes you read that correctly) take a look see:

Steve Bartman And The Myth Of The Beleaguered Cubs Fan

I watched Catching Hell, the documentary by Alex Gibney about the Steve Bartman debacle in 2003, again this Sunday morning. My initial reaction was to just update my Facebook status with something snarky aimed at all my Cub-fan friends (again). God, those people are fun to poke with a stick. Those Cubs fans are, of course, the real villains (along with the press) of the film and...

Adventures at Spring Training Pt2: Angels vs. Reds

Wednesday was another hot day as I headed out to Goodyear to watch the Angels take on the Reds. I was expecting to see Albert Pujols, Torii Hunter, maybe even C.J. Wilson. Instead, as often happens in Spring Training, the Angels played people like Mark Trumbo and batted Maicer Izturiz clean-up. Mark Trumbo I did get to see Dan Haren pitch, though, and he dazzled for three innings...

The Chicago Cubs

(*editor’s note* TSHQ was supposed to have two MLB writers. I was going to handle the AL while my counterpart was supposed to tackle the NL. Sorry to our readers who have only seen the Houston Astros be previewed on this site. Over the next five days, be prepared for a surplus of NL previews. Again, my apologies.) The most downtrodden franchise in the MLB finally has something...
