Catcher Chris Snyder has signed with the Los Angeles Angels on the same day he was released by the Washington Nationals. Washington released Snyder on Monday, and the Angels signed him shortly afterward to a minor-league contract with an invitation to big league training camp. Snyder will compete for the Angels' backup job behind Chris Iannetta. He'll report to spring training in Tempe, Ariz., on Tuesday. Hank Conger was expected to win the job over John Hester and Luke Carlin. Conger has been hitting .417 in spring ball, but has made several recent defensive miscues, worrying manager Mike Scioscia. The 32-year-old Snyder is a career .225 hitter over nine seasons with Arizona, Pittsburgh and Houston. He signed a minor league deal with Washington after the Astros declined his option for this season.

"Thanks chipotle for my free burrito's for life card! The best thing ever! I really appreciate it!"...

Gio Gonzalez with Winnie the Pooh

In other important Washington Nationals Spring Training news, Gio Gonzalez went to Magic Kingdom on Sunday and posed with Winnie the Pooh. Not nearly as important as Bryce Harper posing with Mickey Mouse, but still. (via @GioGonzalez47) Befriend Nats Enquirer on Facebook. Follow on Twitter.

No clown questions, bro: Bryce Harper fielding Nationals season-ticket calls (photo)

Washington Nationals slugger Bryce Harper apparently had Tuesday off from his real job, so instead of just taking it easy and doing whatever it is that Bryce Harper does to chill and relax — although Harper strikes me as the kind of guy who would use the term “chilax” instead of going with both “relax” and “chill,” but that’s another story altogether — he is spending...

Washington National’s Bryce Harper uses sledgehammer to break in his glove

Baseball is a game filled with superstitions and quirky behavior. In the game that gives us the famed Rally caps, beards are grown, same shirts are worn during streaks, while players create unique bonds with their equipment. Washington Nationals OF Bryce Harper has a most unusual method of breaking in his glove. The process takes three days and involves the use of a sledgehammer...

Good news for Angels: Pujols ready to start

MARYVALE, Ariz. The Angels are having a brutal spring training by won-loss standards they're last in the majors at 5-13 but they got some good news Tuesday despite another defeat, a 6-1 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers. First baseman Albert Pujols coming off right knee surgery started in the field for the first time in 2013, and he reiterated that he doesn't expect to...

Bryce Harper uses sledgehammer, bucket of water to break in glove

There are a countless number of ways to break in a baseball glove. Some of the more notable things involved in this process can include any combination of the following: baby oil, an oven, a microwave, a rubber band, shaving cream, and a mattress, just to name a few.But for reigning National League Rookie of the Year winner Bryce Harper, breaking in a new mitt involves a bucket of...

Angels 7, Padres 4

Vernon Wells hit his fourth spring training home run and Mike Trout had a two-run triple to back C.J. Wilson on Sunday in the Los Angeles Angels' 7-4 win over a San Diego Padres' split squad. Wells hit a two-run homer in the fourth on a slider from Freddy Garcia to put the Angels ahead 5-1. Wells went 2 for 2 and is batting .423 (11 for 26). Trout, the AL Rookie of the...

Is It April Yet?

For the first time, probably ever, I can say that this year’s Spring Training for the Washington Nationals is painfully, unquestionably, absolutely, boring.    The team’s opening day roster is all but set. There are no serious injuries, no silly over-performing or underperforming overreactions, not even a last chancer or two sprinkled around camp. The starters...

Weaver, Hanson and the velocity that is (probably) never coming back

Leading up to the season we've heard a lot about lost velocity. Specifically, the velocity that Jered Weaver and Tommy Hanson lost over the last few years. There has been much hand-wringing over whether or not Jered and Tommy would be able to recover that velocity and if they don't, how they will adjust to life with a not-as-fast fastball. Mike Scioscia even went so far as...
