Found December 06, 2012 on Hall of Very Good:
Oh, baseball...another day, another report of a hunting-related injury.Seriously?Tuesday, Chicago Cubs manager Dale Sveum revealed that his former teammate, Hall of Famer Robin Yount accidentally shot him in the right ear during a quail hunting incident.Wednesday, word leaked out that San Diego Padres pitcher Andrew Cashner was going to start the season on the shelf due to, get this, an injury sustained while "trimming a carcass".  As the story goes, a friend of the 26-year-old "slipped" and punctured a tendon on Cashner's throwing hand.My hope is that one or both men were wearing the Friars god-awful camouflage uniforms.Yikes.Both incidents conjure up memories of the injury sustained by then-Colorado Rockies rookie Clint Barmes.  Remember when dud fell and broke his collar bone while lugging a package of deer meat? Now, I don't know about you...but if I made the kind of money these guys do (and, yes, I realize Cashner and Barmes aren't among the highest priced out there), I'd be paying someone to pour my cereal.

Dale Sveum shot by Robin Yount

Cubs manager Dale Sveum revealed that he was shot by Brewers legend Robin Yount while the two were out hunting recently.

Heads up! Sveum caught in Yount's crossfire

Longtime Milwaukee Brewers teammates Dale Sveum and Robin Yount have stayed close since they last played together more than two decades ago. It's the type of friendship that's endured the test of time, the test of Sveum managing the hated Cubs and now, apparently, the test of shotgun pellets from Yount's gun hitting Sveum's ear. Sveum, who took over the Cubs last...

Padres P injured in hunting accident

Padres pitcher Andrew Cashner was unintentionally stabbed in the hand by a friend when trimming a carcass while hunting, with the accident cutting a tendon in his thumb.

Padres P Andrew Cashner could miss start of season after hunting accident

The amount of casualties across Major League Baseball as a result of hunting grew on Wednesday, as the San Diego Padres announced that pitcher Andrew Cashner is likely to miss the start of the season after cutting his hand during a hunting trip. According to Padres general manager Josh Byrnes, Cashner was accidentally stabbed in the hand while he and a friend were cleaning a carcass...

Padres Injury News: Andrew Cashner to Miss Start of the season With Freak Injury

This one almost got lost in all the hustle and bustle of the Winter Meetings.  The San Diego Padres will not have their fireballing relief/starting pitcher Andrew Cashner for the start of the 2013 season.  Cashner suffered a strange injury while hunting with friends. According to Corey Brock of MLB.com, Cashner suffered a lacerated tendon in his right thumb while dressing...

Cubs' Sveum accidentally shot by Yount on hunt

Chicago Cubs manager Dale Sveum says he was accidentally shot in the right ear and back by former teammate Robin Yount during a recent quail hunt in Arizona. Sveum brushed off the mishap Tuesday at the baseball winter meetings. Sveum says the pellets drew blood, but adds he was OK and didn't need stitches. Sveum and the Hall of Famer played together in Milwaukee and are hunting...

Padres' Cashner stabbed in hunting mishap

A freak hunting accident probably will cost the San Diego Padres the services of right-handed pitcher Andrew Cashner at the start of next season. Cashner had surgery Dec. 4 to repair a lacerated tendon in his right thumb. Cashner suffered a puncture wound when he was accidentally stabbed by a friend while the pair was trimming a carcass. Although it took only two stitches to...

Dale Sveum was shot by Robin Yount while quail hunting

Chicago Cubs manager Dale Sveum revealed on Tuesday that he was shot by Hall of Fame player Robin Yount while the two were hunting quail during the offseason. This is easily my favorite story in a while. Sveum, who was teammates with Yount on the Milwaukee Brewers from 1986-1991, says the two were hunting quail in Arizona when Yount hit a two-for-one special. “The bird was in front...

Sveum shot by Yount in hunting accident

Hall of Famer Robin Yount accidentally shot friend and Chicago Cubs manager Dale Sveum while they were hunting for quail in Arizona this fall. "The bird was in front of him and I was about 50 yards up on a hill," Sveum told ESPN Chicago.at the baseball winter meetings in Nashville, Tenn. "He got the bird up and lost track of where I was. He pulled the trigger and...

I Shot the Manager, Said the Brewers’ Two-Time MVP

The amusing-after-the-fact Winter Meetings story of the day comes from Cubs manager Dale Sveum, who was hunting with former Brewers teammate and Hall of Famer Robin Yount before coming to Nashville.  Turns out Yount has an itchy trigger finger and shot Sveum in the back with some bird shot.  It doesn’t take a rocket surgeon to deduce that Sveum wasn’t too happy about it at...

Dale Sveum Says He Was (Sort Of) Shot by Robin Yount While Hunting, Lives to Tell About It

Dale Sveum had a rough go of it in his first season as Chicago Cubs manager. Still in the midst of a rebuilding phase, Sveum and the Cubbies endured a 101-loss season and finished fourth place in the NL Central, ahead of only the putrid Astros. So you would think that that skipper would be all about getting into his offseason, embracing the chance to get away from the game for a...

Cubs manager Dale Sveum accidentally shot by Robin Yount while quail hunting

Tweet   MLB’s winter meetings are taking place this week and while much of the talk out of Nashville, Tennessee has been centered around where names like Josh Hamilton, Zack Greinke, and R.A. Dickey will end up it’s also a time for offseason stories to surface. One such tale was discussed Tuesday when Dale Sveum [...]
