With the loss of Octavio Dotel following the 2011 World Series Championship for the Cards, opportunity abounds in the Cardinals bull pen for 2012. Enter Lance Lynn. Lynn pitched 34.2 Innings for the Cards last year. In that span he K’d 40 batters for 10.38K/9IP. While that strike out rate is pretty special, what more impressive is that he induced ground balls 57.3% of the time. If he would have had a qualifying season, that would have been 4th best ratio in the league. Lynn comes out of the pen with three plus pitches FB, CB, and a Change. However, he features mostly a FB(73.3%)/CB(22.2%) mix. Obviously 34 innings is a small sample size, but even if his number regress a bit we are still looking at a great option as a RP. He might even get a chance at the rotation should any injuries occur during the year. He was a SP throughout his minor league career and even started 2 games last year. He is worth a late round flyer or a FA pick-up considering his profile. Should his st...

At least we’re not Detroit?
Any excuse to post this shot of Prince Fielder.
A column on Detroit’s recent signing of the free agent first baseman to a $214 million contract by ESPN’s L.Z. Granderson: “Wouldn’t it be a shame if the city that wins the championship needs a handout to pay for the victory parade?”
Depends on who you ask, of course.
More from Granderson:

Max Scherzer, 2012 Fantasy Sleeper
Max Scherzer has been almost exactly the same pitcher the last three years. He pitches around a 3.75 xFIP then fights Nazis in the offseason. (He sure is limber for being thousands of years old, made of mud and having two different color eyes!) I say almost because his strikeout rate fell a tad in 2011, but nothing that I’m worried about. His velocity was fully populated...

Pujols vs. Prince, other contract details
Albert Pujols-Prince Fielder. Who got the better deal? Well, it's probably a matter of how you look at it. And for a really close look, here are some contract details filed to the Major League Baseball Players Association.
Tigers' order not weighing on Young's mind
Delmon Young knew that with Victor Martinez out, there was a chance he'd be the one protecting an All-Star slugger in the Tigers' batting order. He had no idea that would be Prince Fielder instead of Miguel Cabrera.
Fielder makes 'husky' cool
By now weve been deluged with virtually every angle of the Prince Fielder signing by the Tigers.
Everything from when did the courting begin to his relationship with his father to the short- and long-term impact this stunning acquisition will have on the Detroit franchise.
