One of the most maddening things about the Diamondbacks’ first half of the 2013 season is the fact that every time they look like they’re about to turn a corner and make some kind of huge run or fix a big deficiency, they regress back to where they started, often within a couple games. That’s not something easily explained away. While they’ve been able to hold on to their 2.5 game lead for what seems like forever, they’ve had more than a few chances to bury the division.

Analyzing the second half Diamondbacks schedule

The Diamondbacks’ schedule in the first half was a little road-heavy on some brutal road trips, which bodes well for the club as they take a slim division lead into the latter half of the season. The club played 95 games before the All-Star break, including 48 of their 81 road games. That means they’ll play 33 in the second half, and that includes just one long road trip and...

Diamondbacks release Eric Hinske

Source: Marc Serota/Getty Images North America The Arizona Diamondbacks have released Eric Hinske. Once a valuable bench bat the 35-year-old Hinske was hitting just .173 this season. Hinske is expected to retire after hitting 137 home runs in his 12 year career. This season Hinske appeared in 52 games for the Diamondbacks but amassed only 52 at-bats. Hinske’s best season came in...

Diamondbacks Roundtable: Looking at the first half

Goldschmidt and Corbin are huge reasons why the D-Backs remain in first in the NL West.

Can Patrick Corbin Really Be This Good?

Patrick Corbin has been one of the more fascinating players of the 2013 season to me. He did not get much publicity coming into the 2013 campaign and was even battling Randall Delgado in Spring Training for the last spot in the DBacks rotation. Corbin’s been a bonafide ace in the first half. Corbin had an ADP of 260 in ESPN leagues and currently ranks 18th on their player rater...

What To Do With Ian Kennedy

We are long since removed from Ian Kennedy’s breakthrough 21-4 season with a 2.88 ERA back in 2011. Since then, Kennedy had an average at best season and this year he has been downright miserable, but still he is owned in over 60% of Yahoo! leagues. It is time to dump Kennedy and there should not be much of a regret in letting him go. His strikeout rate of 19.1% is as low as it’s...

Corbin, Goldschmit make presence felt as All-Stars

The Diamondbacks' two first-time All-Stars distinguished themselves -- for different reasons -- in the National League's 3-0 loss to the AL on Tuesday night at Citi Field. Pitcher Patrick Corbin put himself into the All-Star Game record book by being credited with the loss. He worked the fourth inning and gave up the game's first run -- which proved to be decisive. ...

Report: Arizona in three-team Matt Garza race

We’ve been hearing the rhetoric for weeks, but as we draw closer to the July 31 trade deadline, the fact that the Diamondbacks are still being mentioned in rumors for starting pitchers like Matt Garza is good if you want the team to chase a front-of-the-rotation starter. That’s exactly what is happening, as former MLB executive Jim Bowden wrote at ESPN.com.

Top Diamondbacks prospect Archie Bradley: big OU Sooners fan

As we’re just two weeks away from the MLB Trade Deadline, we’re looking at some of the biggest MILB prospect names that will be brought up by MLB GMs. Not saying any of these guys will be traded, but all of them will be talked about. Some are actually on the table; others are not. And yes, watching Low A baseball is WAY BETTER than watching the ESPYs. No question. Archie Bradley...

Diamondbacks have new Luchador mascot

The Arizona Diamondbacks have introduced a second mascot to their fanbase: the Diamondbacks Luchador, pictured above. In case you're unaware, a luchador is a masked Mexican pro wrestler. like Rey Mysterio Jr in the WWE. The D-Backs Luchador has apparently been doing some work with the team on more of an unofficial basis as judging from his Twitter account. The Luchador also...

Arizona Diamondbacks Have a Mascot That Can Kick Your Mascot's Butt

I think it is safe to say now that the Arizona Diamondbacks now have a mascot that can kick the *sses of every other mascot in baseball-- their very own Lucha libre wrestler! From @MLB Baxter the Bobcat had been the team's mascot since 2000 and has been a crows favorite at Chase Field. It appears that he will now be joined by the team's very own luchador (a masked...

Getting bullpen right is D-backs' first priority

PHOENIX -- The Diamondbacks used a closer-by-situation approach in the final series before the All-Star break, and it worked fine. Three save opportunities, three saves, by two different finishers. But it is not an ideal solution, manager Kirk Gibson said, and his relievers echoed that sentiment. Righting a bullpen that is tied (with the Cubs) for the major-league lead with 19 failed...

D-backs announcer arrested, suspended

The Spanish play-by-play announcer for the Arizona Diamondbacks is in custody for allegedly threatening his wife with a knife. Court paperwork released Wednesday show 53-year-old Miguel Perez Quintana is facing charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and criminal damage. Quintana is in his 16th year as a Diamondbacks' broadcaster. The team says he has been suspended...

The Diamondbacks Introduce Their New Mascot: D-backs Luchador

Well, you can file this one under, “I can’t believe this is news,” but on a night void of baseball, The Arizona Diamondbacks stole headlines by sacking former mascot Baxter the Bobcat in favor of a new club rep, D-backs Luchador. #PrayForBaxter       [@MLB] Article found on: Next Impulse Sports
