The Boston Red Sox have agreed to terms with outfielder Jonny Gomes on a two-year contract that would reportedly pay him $10 million.
The Red Sox have not announced the deal. But a baseball official, speaking on the condition of anonymity because Gomes had yet to take his physical, said on Monday that the terms were agreed to.
Gomes is a career .244 hitter who batted .262 with 18 homers and 47 RBIs for the Oakland Athletics last year.
A part-time player for most of his 10-year career, Gomes has played both right and left field.

The Red Sox have signed three players they trimmed from their roster last week to make the 40-man roster deadline, according to Ian Browne of MLB.com.
The three? David Carpenter -- the pitcher brought over from Toronto with John Farrell, infielder Ivan De Jesus, and pitcher Sandy Rosario, who was claimed off waivers last month. De Jesus came over in the Dodgers blockbuster in August...
Adding some fuel to the Jon Lester trade rumor fire, Rob Bradford has a source saying that the Red Sox and Lester have not begun to discuss an extension. With just two years left on Jon Lester’s initial extension, signed back in the 2008-2009 offseason, now would typically be prime territory for extension talks. After [...]
The Boston Red Sox have had ongoing negotiations with free
agent outfielder Nick Swisher, reports Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe.
The Red Sox have had ongoing negotiations with Swisher and
Boston signed free agent outfielder Jonny Gomes earlier this
offseason, but they continue to be in the market for another as they view the
veteran as a platoon...
If I am trying to study for an exam, the last thing you should do is send me a text message informing me that the Boston Red Sox are in talks to acquire one of the best prospects in Major League Baseball.
Of course, this is exactly what my friend Ryan Courville did with a simple text message that read the following:
“Will Myers for Jon Lester?”
I spit out my coffee and immediately...
Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here... highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump.
Red Sox, oh, Red Sox, please, the suspense is slowly but surely starting to kill us.
Could you throw us a bone?
Sign a starter? Trade for a first baseman? Pluck an outfielder off waivers? Vice versa? Versa...
In this morning’s Notes column, the Boston Globe’s Nick Cafardo suggests that the Red Sox need to ‘make a splash’ to improve but the on-field team and the organisation’s PR record after the disappointment of 2012. Cafardo suggests targeting Josh Hamilton as a free agent or trading for Joe Mauer to address the team’s lack of star power in the every day lineup.
The Boston Red Sox continue to look for ways to shore up their outfield, and they have reportedly sought out free-agent outfielder Nick Swisher.
According to Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe, the Red Sox “have had ongoing negotiations with Swisher and his agents.”
Last season, Swisher hit .272 with the Bronx Bombers, smacking 24 home runs while driving in 93 RBIs in 148 games...
With Yu Darvish's success this season, it's easy to forget there was another Japanese phenom who was supposed to light the Majors on fire. Well, actually there have been numerous Japanese pitchers with high ceilings who fell well short of expectation. But one such pitcher, Daisuke Matsuzaka fell so famously flat, his name will forever be linked with Japanese pitchers...
Rander Henderson, Mayor of Ft. Myers, belives the city and county would have been better off without JetBlue Park.
Fort Myers mayor Randy Henderson told the News-Press
that the Lee County region would have been better served to permit the
Red Sox to leave the county rather than paying for the construction of a
new facility for the Sox, JetBlue Park, which opened in 2012...
The world keeps spinning. The Red Sox offseason is spinning as well. The speed of both varies greatly. The Red Sox have met with free agent first baseman and catcher Mike Napoli while also signing outfielder Jonny Gomes. They will continue looking at other outfield options at the moment hoping that they can find [...]
Mike Napoli sits atop of Boston’s wish list.
According to the Boston Herald, Napoli is reportedly the Red Sox’ first option in free agency. If the club manages to reach an agreement with Napoli, they’d likely pencil him in at first base as opposed to catcher.
Napoli, who has already convened with the Red Sox and Mariners, is scheduled to sit down with the Rangers on Wednesday...
The Red Sox and Royals have discussed a trade that would send Jon Lester to Kansas City for Wil Myers. Does it make sense to consider trading Lester when the rotation is so thin?
Rob Bradford is reporting that the Red Sox and Royals d...
This year on Black Friday, we didn't see any GMs make any big moves for great, low prices, though the Red Sox did overpay for Jonny Gomes on Wednesday. Will we see anything today, on Cyber Monday, or throughout the rest of the week? Perhaps. BJ Upton will reportedly be making a decision on where he'll play in 2013 and beyond this week, and the finalists are reportedly the...
