A person familiar with the situation says the Chicago White Sox are promoting general manager Ken Williams and assistant GM Rick Hahn. The person spoke Thursday on condition of anonymity because the team has not made an official announcement. That will come at a news conference scheduled for Friday morning. It was not clear what exactly their new job titles will be. Williams is the fourth-longest tenured GM in baseball at the moment. He just completed his 12th season, a run that included a championship in 2005 that ended an 87-year drought along with another division title in 2008.

Charles Comiskey’s reputation destroyed by players who took money from gamblers during 1919 WS

Former Chicago White Sox owner Charles Comiskey was painted as either a victim or an enabler when it came to the unfortunate scandal that resulted in eight players being banned from baseball for life. Some look at Comiskey as a penny pinching owner that forced his players to turn on him. Baseball reference and wikipedia say that he forced the players to pay their own cleaning bills...

Dunn and Rodney are lazy picks for comeback awards

The Comeback Player of the Year Award is a strange animal. Basically, you qualify for the award if you completely sucked the previous year(s) or were injured and could not perform. To top off the weirdness of the animal, there are two of them. The Sporting News has awarded the prize since 1965 and then Major League Baseball came up with its version in 2005. Both have already awarded...

Why I’m Not Sad About Ozzie Guillen’s Firing

Prior to the 2012 season, the Marlins changed their name, their uniforms, their home address and most notably, their locks on the team’s piggy banks.  Or to be more accurate, they got rid of those locks altogether, spending money freely to sign, sign and sign some more big-name players.  In addition to the well-known players they added to their roster, Miami also added a manager...
