The narrative du jour surrounding the Cleveland Indians is pretty straightforward. A young team that should be getting better. A durable pitching staff with at least two front-end arms. A bullpen built on young talent. A core of position players that seems poised to hit its prime. Even with the glaring hole at first base, it’s pretty easy to squint and see this team winning the weak AL Central in 2012. And everybody knows that the playoffs are a crapshoot. Anything could happen…
That’s how the narrative goes at least. And I have to admit: it’s a narrative I’ve been fairly complicit in promoting over the last several months. There’s just one problem with the narrative: it might not be true. Let’s discuss.

Report: Indians One Of Six Teams With Interest In Yoenis Cespedes
According to a report from Dionisio Soldevila of ESPN Deportes, the Cleveland Indians are one of six teams showing interest in Cuban defector Yoenis Cespedes. Are the Cleveland Indians Interested in Carlos Pena?
According to MLB.com, the Cleveland Indians have expressed major interest in slugging first basemen Carlos Pena. Pena is already making 5 million in 2012 from the Chicago Cubs, so it might be smart to offer him a 1 year deal around 6-7 million. That would be a base of 12 million for the year, and easily doable for any team looking to add some pop.
The Indians aren’t the best...
Spring (Training) is in the Air

Spring Training is just around the corner, and before we know it, players will be starting...

The only issue, which has historically been a big one, is the ownership team’s willingness to provide the funds to acquire a non-basement-level free agent.
Hoynes states that Chris Antonetti and Company...
