DENVER — Every year camp invites provide intrigue, either with a familar veteran name or hyped prospect. In pitcher Jamie Moyer and third baseman Nolan Arenado, the Rockies will have both when spring training opens this month in Scottsdale. Moyer is attempting a comeback at 49 years old. According to ESPN, if he makes the team, Moyer will become only the second non-knuckleballer in history to throw a pitch at age 49 or older. Moyer, who missed last season after undergoing Tommy John surgery, said recently on MLBRadio that he’s throwing as well as he was in 2009 with the Phillies. The key to his bid will be adequate fastball velocity to set up his trademark changeup. Arenado is 20 years old. He’s the club’s most hyped position prospect since Troy Tulowitzki. Arenado spent a chunk of winter working out with the all-star shortstop in Las Vegas. “I can’t tell you how much that helped me,” said Arenado, who participated in batting practice sessions as well as lifting workouts.
