The Diamondbacks continued on with their busy offseason on Wednesday by signing utility man Willie Bloomquist to a two-year contract. The deal is worth $3.8 million over the course of the contract, according to MLBTradeRumors.com.
Just a few days back, a team seemed unlikely between the two sides.
Arizona had just signed John McDonald to a two-year deal and Bloomquist’s agent Scott Boras came out and criticized the deal by saying “It sounds to me like what happened is, they got upset when Willie opted out. They got emotional and they went out and signed a guy who hit .169.”
Over the last 24 hours though, Boras and the D’Backs were able to come to an agreement.
Bloomquist, who hit .266 in his first season in Arizona, will be in the mix as a backup to Stephen Drew at shortstop.
