Rookie center fielder Adam Eaton showed enough in his September immersion with the Arizona Diamondbacks to draw praise from manager Kirk Gibson. "I'd say overall, a huge success in the time he was up here and encouraging what his future is, what he could do for us," Gibson said before the D-backs fell to the Chicago Cubs 7-2 on Sunday. Eaton will miss the final four games of the season after suffering a broken left hand when he was hit by a pitch in an 8-2 victory over the Cubs on Saturday, but he provided a spark at the top of the order in his 26 days after being promoted from Class AAA Reno on Sept. 4. Eaton hit .259 in 85 at-bats, with three doubles, two triples, two home runs and two stolen bases. He also drew 14 walks and was hit by three pitches, giving him a .382 on-base percentage. Catcher Miguel Montero's .394 on-base percentage is the highest on the team. "He makes some young mistakes, yet I like his drive, his determination, the different th...

Cahill trade has worked out well for both sides

PHOENIX -- The Diamondbacks' offseason trade with Oakland involving principals Trevor Cahill and Jarrod Parker was generally perceived as a trade for proven performance and away from projectable potential. Both teams made the right move. The D-backs got the Cahill they expected. Oakland got the Parker they believed in. Cahill was the big winner Saturday night. He takes the...

4 Arizona Diamondbacks Who May Not Be Back Next Season

Now officially eliminated from playoff contention, the 2012 Arizona Diamondbacks’ season will go down as a major disappointment. At this time last year, the Diamondbacks had just claimed their first division title since 2007, and their playoff hopes looked bright. The Diamondbacks stood atop the NL West with an eight game lead heading into the playoffs and found themselves facing...

Miley finishes surprise season with a flourish

PHOENIX -- Wade Miley did what he could do Monday. The rest is up to the electorate. Miley added to his strong case for the National League Rookie of the Year award in his final start of the season against the Rockies, and he made it in capital letters. Among those who believe the game revolves around the men on the mound, it should be no contest. Although he was not around long...

D-backs see Eaton's debut as 'huge success'

PHOENIX -- Adam Eatons season was cut short because of a broken right hand, but it lasted long enough to encourage the Diamondbacks. It is not a stretch to think Eaton played well enough to force the D-backs into an offseason trade to thin the currently overloaded outfield corps and potentially contend for the starting spot in center field in 2013. Id say, overall, a huge success...

Cahill (13-12), 4-1 in his final five starts of the season, struck out a season-high nine and walked three. He was two outs shy of his...

Arizona's Gibson: 'We'll watch, we'll learn and we'll reload'

The Arizona Diamondbacks were eliminated from the NL wild-card chase Friday, almost before they had any say in the matter. Down six games with six to play, it was almost an impossible task to begin with. St. Louis eliminated Arizona with a 12-2 victory over Washington, scoring nine runs in the first two innings to take all the suspense out of it two time zones to the east. The...
