Bring on 2012!
The 2012 Detroit Tigers have high expectations this year. With the addition of Prince Fielder, and Justin Verlander coming off one of the best seasons by a pitcher in nearly 10 years, a lot is to be expected. Sure, having a few great players like a Miguel Cabrera or a Jose Valverde will help you win, but baseball is a team game. How do the 25 players stack up as a whole compared to other clubs in the MLB?
Breaking down and evaluating each part of the team in five parts: offense, defense, starting pitching, bullpen, and management. Doing this should give an accurate representation of the club as a whole, and how deep the team is from the starting nine, to a platoon pinch hitter on the bench.
2012 Projected win/loss: 96-66, 1st in the AL Central
Offense: Last year the Tigers had no problem whatsoever scoring runs. The Tigers finished among the top four in the MLB in average, slugging, on-base-percentage; and runs. Hitters like Miguel Cabrera, Victor Martinez, and a few ...

DETROIT -- When you goin down?
It's a mundane, gap-filling question in most circumstances -- somewhere between looking at your watch or scrolling the cell phone for messages -- but it has a ring of anticipation when spoken during one of the dark holes in the sports calendar.
At a luncheon in downtown Detroit on Tuesday afternoon in which Detroit Tigers president and GM Dave...
Justin Verlander is a 'ninja riding a cheetah'
When Justin Verlander isn't pitching (throwing no-hitters and winning the Cy Young and MVP awards), he's either golfing, riding in racecars, appearing on Conan, eating Taco Bell, perfectly predicting the outcome of the Super Bowl, tweeting, orrrr - deep breath - promoting MLB 2k12, the video game of which he'll be gracing the cover. Yeah, he's pretty awesome, as he...
The BP First Take: Monday, February 6 by Daniel Rathman
Brad Penny is taking his talents to Japan to play for the Softbank Hawks. But that is not the real story here—the real story is that the Hawks will pay Penny $4 million in 2012, and offer him the potential to earn $3.5 million more in incentives. The deal also carries a $4.5 million mutual option for 2013.
By major-league standards, Penny has become a shadow of his former...
Small market owners need to step up
Detroit Tigers owner, 84 year old Mike Ilitch, desperately wants to bring a world series championship to Detroit. If you question that, you need not look any further than the $200+ million commitment he made to Prince Fielder. The Tigers were good last year, but took a huge hit when Victor Martinez was lost for the year. Instead of throwing up his hands and hoping...
Justin Verlander – part cheetah, part ninja
2K Sports is starting to promote MLB 2K12 pretty hard as it releases in early March. One area they’ve revamped is their Perfect Game challenge, making it an eight person tournament now, which I think is much more exciting then the first to do it. To promote the change they have cover boy Justin Verlander channel his inner Brian Wilson in a somewhat funny commercial. I...

Verlander earns award for Super Bowl pick
While the Giants were celebrating Sunday night with their second Super Bowl win over the Patriots in five years, Justin Verlander was celebrating on Twitter over his prognostication that the Giants would win with a 21-17 final score, calling him a proud winner.
