Around the Farm takes a quick look at some of yesterday’s performances by Indians prospects throughout the system. The positions listed below are where the player was playing in yesterday’s game. Matt Packer: SP, Akron Aeros: W (12-9), 6 IP, 6 H, 2 BB, 3 K: This wasn’t Packer’s best outing of the season, but it really does sum up how far he’s come since his struggles began after his breakout year in 2010. Packer has been healthy this year, and while he’s struggled to a 6.18 ERA in August after a dominant showing in May, June and July, the numbers have been a bit misleading of late. Over his past three starts, Packer has two games in which he’s gone 13 total innings, giving up only nine hits and an unearned run over that stretch. Now he has walked six during that stretch, against eight K’s, but walks truly haven’t been an issue for the lefty. Packer has really played himself back into the mix for the Aeros and the Indians, and I can really see him as an asset as a potential fifth sta...

What the Jose Ramirez promotion means for Tribe’s future

Typically, September promotions in baseball don’t warrant a significant amount of attention. For most teams, it’s a matter of adding along the miscellaneous 40-man players that they’ve had ready to go all season. For the few remaining contending squads, the focus is on players who can impact games in any small way. What this means is, typically, 20-year-old 5-foot-9 second...

Second Thoughts Game #134: Indians 2, Tigers 7

A rough start for Zach McAllister, a lost fly ball by Michael Bourn with the bases loaded, wild pitches and more missed scoring opportunities did the Indians in again on Friday night in Detroit even with Miguel Cabrera taken out of the game early with an injury. The rain provided some relief to the torment for Indians players and fans, but ended up forcing the game to...

August 2013 Player Power Rankings

August was a poor month for the Indians in general as can be seen by the many players who played below their expected values for the month. While the pitching staff maintained their level of excellence. As players have fallen into their niches this deep into the season, there has been very little movement, most of which was due to Corey Kluber being absent from this month's rankings...

Remember when the Indians were in the thick of the American League Central race? Well, it’s safe to say that race is officially over. The Indians went 1-5 this past week, which all but ensures that the Detroit Tigers will clinch the AL Central. The Tribe’s performance was especially difficult to take because the Oakland Athletics actually won 3-of-4 games against the Tigers,...
