Around the Farm takes a quick look at some of yesterday’s performances by Indians prospects throughout the system. The positions listed below are where the player was playing in yesterday’s game. Note: Columbus’ game was postponed on Sunday. Dylan Baker (SP, Lake County): 8.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, BB, 4 K Baker had a near-perfect day on the mound and if not for the limitations with his pitch count he would have been given a chance for the complete game shutout. This is the kind of outing you want to see out of him as he is a high profile pick from last year’s draft and he has impressive stuff, so it is just about being more consistent with his outings. There are lots of other things with his mechanics, stuff and so on he is working on, but consistency from outing to outing is a big thing and was a problem for him early in the season. Of late, he’s really settled in as he has not allowed an earned run in three of his last four outings, and in his last four outings has thrown 27.1 innings and...

Indians add Martinez to roster, option out Langwell

The Cleveland Indians today announced that they have selected the contract of right-handed pitcher Joe Martinez and called him up from Triple-A Columbus to Cleveland. To make room on the 25-man roster, right-handed pitcher Matt Langwell was optioned to Columbus. The Indians had less than 40 players on the 40-man roster, so no move was required to clear space for Martinez. Martinez...

Launching off with the Aeros: 6/18/13 – 7/1/13

While Launching off with the Aeros was off during the past two weeks the Akron Aeros stumbled to a 5-10 record, falling to a 39-44 record. The team had been surging before this dry spell but now finds itself 5.5 games out of first place in the Western Division and in fifth place. Despite the poor performance of the team as a whole, the Aeros got some good news recently as Carlos...

June 2013 Player Power Rankings

Each month so far has seen a different player stand out as the best player for the month with Santana excelling in April and Masterson in May and June is no different with Kipnis destroying the competition. As has been with each case so far, the exemplary month was enough to put that player at number one in the rankings. Here's how the rest of the players fall after the Indians...

Around the Farm: July 1, 2013

Danny Salazar (Columbus Clippers SP, game one): 5 IP, 2 H, 2 SO Salazar had a strong outing on Monday night as he was economical with his pitches and runs in a close game against Durham; a club that totes former Indians Shelley Duncan and Chris Gimenez. Salazar threw 49 of his 64 pitches for strikes which is 76%. Danny also averaged a tick under thirteen pitches per inning. This...

Preview: Royals welcome division-leading Indians to Kauffman

The Cleveland Indians open their July schedule someplace they haven't been in nearly six weeks - alone atop the AL Central. The surging Indians look to extend their winning streak to five games in Tuesday night's series opener against the Kansas City Royals at Kauffman Stadium. After opening June 1-8, Cleveland (44-38) closed the month with 14 wins in 19 games to pull within...

Indians aim for sweep in Chicago

It's been over 18 years since the Cleveland Indians swept a four-game series from the Chicago White Sox. The Indians may have to get the best of Chris Sale on Sunday to end that drought, but that wasn't a problem in their last matchup with Chicago's ace. Since losing a season-high eight straight, the Indians (43-38) have gone in the opposite direction by winning 13 of...

While We’re Waiting… for a hero

“While We’re Waiting” serves as the early morning gathering of WFNY-esque information for your viewing pleasure. Have something you think we should see? Send it to our tips email at tips@waitingfornextyear.com. “The Cleveland Indians, for instance, are a heavily flawed team succeeding on the back of perhaps one of the best offseasons in the free agent market we’ve seen...

Potential Indians 2013 All-Stars

It's the beginning of July and time for All-Star talk again. The Indians have been pretty good as a team this year (currently first in the AL Central) and have had stand outs among hitters, starters and relief pitchers. With the current state of voting, as usual, the Indians will not have a voted in starter in this years game (the last was Juan Gonzalez in 2001). This means their...

Tribe Weekend Recap: Chicago sweep puts Wahoos tied atop the central

I feel like every Monday morning, I open with the same theme: The Indians are streaking. I dubbed them “Team Streak” about a month ago and nothing they do is making me change that moniker any time soon. Lets review: From April 28th to to May 20th, the Tribe won 19 of 23 and played like one of the best team’s in baseball. From May 21st to June 10th, they lost 16 of 20 and couldn’t...

Masterson (10-6) gave up six hits, struck out eight and walked one. He blanked the White Sox for the second time this year. Masterson faced the minimum 18 batters through...

Guest Post: The Cakesland Windians Will Not Be Stopped

I got tired of all the criticism about my lack of follow through for Guest Post Week so I am repairing my image today.  Do you all remember this horrible post written by G$ just a scant three weeks ago?  If you don't want to click the link and give this site unnecessary page views that it does not deserve, it was a premature eulogy for YOUR Cleveland Windians.  It is the normal...
