Around the Farm (ATF) takes a quick look at some of the daily performances by Indians prospects. This is a special fall and winter ball version of ATF that recaps all the offseason action by Indians players in the Arizona Fall League and the Caribbean Leagues.  The positions listed below are where the player was playing in the game. Venezuelan Winter League Jesus Aguilar (1B, Leones del Caracas): 2-for-6, 2 R, 1 HR, 2 RBI. The big nights just to continue to come for Aguilar. The big first baseman has now gone 23-for-60 in 15 games this fall while compiling five home runs and 17 RBI along the way. What’s even better though is the fact that Aguilar has gone hitless in just one of those 15 games. Ezequiel Carrera (CF, Navegantes del Magallanes): 0-for-2, 2 BB. Carrera’s modest three-game hit streak was snapped in this game, but he did manage to get on base twice via the walk. Carrera has been drawing plenty of walks this fall as he now has 11 in 15 games. Arizona Fall League Jake Lo...

Winter Ball Notebook: Aguilar impressive early

With the exception of the Puerto Rican Winter League, the other winter and fall leagues have now been in action for a couple of weeks now, and a slew of Indians have been competing. The actual value of the winter leagues is certainly a topic that’s up for debate. For many, they're nothing more than a continuation of the minor leagues, so there’s no need to put much thought...

Cleveland Indians 2013 player grades: Assessing the outfield

The Cleveland Indians shocked the baseball world by bringing in big names and spending some serious cash during the 2012-13 offseason. Having already landed two-time World Series champion Terry Francona as the club’s new manager, the Indians then signed former Yankee Nick Swisher in late December to a 4-year, $56-million contract. Should the Indians Keep Ubaldo Jimenez?

Coming out of the 2012 season, it seemed a big question whether or not the Indians would use the first of Ubaldo Jimenez's two team options and bring him back for $5.75 million. To this point, Jimenez had been historically bad, but had shown flashes of excellence in individual starts. Willing to take a chance for the relatively low price, the Indians brought him back and he had...

Myers Dominant as Phillies Take 2-0 Series Lead

Brett Myers confounded A’s hitters with his cutter. Coming into this Series, most people fell on one of two sides of the debate: either the 1929 A’s were going to dominate because they had three future Hall of Famers in the middle of their lineup and another one on the mound, or the 2008 Phillies were going to dominate because the players of their era were bigger and stronger...

The Window is Open

There are a few different terms used to discuss the progress of a baseball team from rebuilding to dynasty. Generally a team will go from rebuilding, where they will sign young players and work in the minor league system for the future, to a veteran team, just on the edge of the play-offs. After this, lucky teams will hit a peak where they will go deep into the play-offs for a few...
