Arte Moreno has enough money to buy you, make you dance a jig for his amusement, sell you for thirty cents on the dollar, buy you back, have you killed, and then have you made into some amusing little tinker-toy. And GQ got a rare interview with the Angels owner today: GQ: Is there concern about paying him $30 million when he’s 41 years old? Arte Moreno: Someone else asked me this, and I said, “I’ll tell you something: If he’s healthy enough and he’s playing for us, then I’m gonna just say, ‘Merry Christmas to all baseball fans,’” because we get to see one of the best players of our generation coming to bat. I hope Pujols plays until he’s 41 but there’s a good chance by then the Angels will be looking for a mulligan on this contract like most teams do that sign an aging player to a deal like they did with Pujols. I’d also recommend checking out Halo Hangout’s take on the interview. It’s headed up by our boy MJ Lloyd and it’s a pretty good long view on the Angels. What I can’t f

Healthy Morales gives Angels offensive influx

TEMPE, Az. For the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim this spring, the hype has been about Albert Pujols. The hope, for the Angels, has been for Kendrys Morales. So far, so good. And it got even better on Thursday afternoon. Morales, out since fracturing his lower left leg in a home late celebration of a May 29, 2010 walk-off grand slam against Seattle, faced big-league pitching...

Angels' C.J. Wilson is heating up early

Reporting from Surprise, Ariz. C.J. Wilson ran more than a mile before his Tuesday start, produced five shutout innings with five strikeouts and no walks, then ran again in the outfield for about 15 minutes. "I'm looking forward to building up to nine innings," Wilson said afterward. "I'm trying to simulate pitching on a hot day in Texas." Wilson...

C. J. Wilson interviews with AngelsWin.com

By David Saltzer, AngelsWin.com Senior Writer On December 10, 2011, Angels fans got their first chance to meet the newest member of their starting rotation: C. J. Wilson. While Angels fans had come to know of him from his days in Texas, they really didn’t know what kind of pitcher they were getting. Since then, Angels fans have come to know Wilson as a bit of a prankster and...

Six Angels that could be traded before Opening Day

Outside of the fifth starter spot, the Angels Opening Day roster is set.  This is the kind of thing that happens after you spend half of a gajillion dollars in the off-season to add free agents and lock up other players to extensions.  It makes for great roster certainty, but not so much for spring training position battle intrigue.  Sigh. But wait!  There is always the possibility...

Angels anticipate big things with Pujols' big bat

Albert Pujols is getting to work early and staying late at spring training. He's honing his famed swing and getting to know his new teammates, fastidiously preparing to give a full return on the biggest investment the Los Angeles Angels have ever made. The Angels can't wait to reap the dividends during the most anticipated season in franchise history. The three-time NL...

Royals hit Weaver hard in loss to Angels

Hitting right-handed, the switch-hitting Morales bounced a seeing-eye single off Royals left-hander Danny Duffy in the second inning. He then ran hard and slid safely into third on Bobby Abreu's double...

Larry Bowa Interviews with AngelsWin.com

Interview Conducted by Brian Waller, AngelsWin.com Feature WriterIntensity is something you can’t teach. It’s not a pitch you can practice in the bullpen; it’s not a flaw in your swing you can fix in the batting cages. It’s an intangible that doesn’t show in stat lines on the back of baseball cards. It’s a personality trait that is found in winners and leaders throughout...

Bobby Abreu, from great mentor to bad role model

I’ve always believed that a team needs a strong veteran presence, on a 25-man roster there should be at least a couple of older players to mentor the youngsters.  Maybe I have an issue with authority myself, but it’s always been easier for me to learn from an experienced peer than from someone assigned to evaluate or manage me.  But an important aspect of mentorship is promotion...

Angels 7, Royals 4

He then ran hard and slid safely into third on Bobby Abreu's double to left. Morales added...

MLB 2012 Preview: The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim

It has been 10 years since the (then) Anaheim Angles won the World Series on the backs of rookies John Lackey and Francisco Rodriguez, and older folks like Bengie Molina and Garret Anderson (not to mention the Rally Monkey). Post 2002, the Angles went on a tear, winning the AL West five times between 2004 and 2009. Since then, though, the Texas Rangers have taken over ownership of...
