BOSTON -- Rookie right-hander Jarrod Parker pitched 6 2/3 innings for his first major league win as the Oakland A's ended their three-game losing streak by hanging on for a 5-3 win over the Red Sox at chilly Fenway Park on Tuesday night. Lefty Jordan Norberto got the last two outs with the tying runs on base to record his first big-league save. The loss kept the Red Sox, winners of seven of their last nine, from climbing above the .500 mark for the first time this season. Boston fell to 11-12. Mike Aviles chased Oakland closer Grant Balfour with a two-run single in the ninth, and the tying runs were on base when Norberto came on to strike out Lars Anderson and get Dustin Pedroia to ground out and end the game. The A's had yielded 26 runs during the losing streak, 11 in Monday's night's series-opening loss to Boston. However, Parker, making his third big league start (second with the A's), yielded just four hits, walked two and struck out four. Brian Fuent...

The Red Sox have placed third baseman Kevin Youkilis on the 15-day disabled list because of a strained back.
Boston made the move Wednesday and also promoted Triple-A prospect Will Middlebrooks to take Youkilis' roster spot.
Youkilis had been a late scratch the past three days, and manager Bobby Valentine said he has improved but wouldn't have been able to play for at least...
BOSTON –– It's normal to forget that Felix Doubront is a rookie. Prior to Tuesday's 5-3 loss, Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine recognized the fact. In Doubront's first four stats, the lefty was arguably the most effective pitcher in the rotation, having allowed 10 runs over 22 innings. For a rookie –– a first-time, full-time starter –– there will be shortcomings...
BOSTON –– Lars Anderson is heading back down to Triple-A. After Tuesday's 5-3 loss against the Athletics, Anderson was summoned into Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine's office. Shortly after the conversation, the first baseman and outfielder started cleaning out his locker. The Red Sox haven't announced a corresponding move for Anderson. General manager Ben Cherington...
BOSTON –– Aaron Cook has received his promotion. Now, he'll be rewarded with a start Saturday against the Orioles. Before Wednesday's game against Oakland, Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine announced that Josh Beckett –– who was originally slated to start Saturday –– was experiencing stiffness in his right lat muscle. "Josh is going to just miss that one start...

The Red Sox have signed pitcher Mark Prior and plan to have him stay in Fort Myers to build up arm strength. If Prior can get his form back it will give Valentine some more options in the rotation.
In other Red Sox news, Aaron Cook will start Saturday in place of Beckett who will be pushed back a day.
The wet weather across New England left the Red Sox in a vulnerable spot on Tuesday. But it looks like Felix Doubront and the Red Sox will be taking the field for a 7:05 p.m. start, as planned. The second game of Boston's series against the Oakland A's is still schedule to start on time on Tuesday night, according to the Red Sox. Tune into the game on NESN for all your coverage...
Oakland Athletics outfielder Josh Reddick flipped over the short outfield wall at Fenway Park on Monday night and landed in the Boston bullpen while chasing a home run hit by Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz.
It happened in the bottom of the fifth inning when Big Papi hit a fly ball to deep right-center field and Reddick chased it to the wall. Reddick timed his jump correctly...
The Red Sox offense finally came back alive Monday night in an 11-6 win over the Oakland Athletics at Fenway Park. Boston combined for just two runs in their final two games in Chicago this weekend; the first coming in a 1-0 win Saturday thanks to a strong performance by Jon Lester and the second in a 4-1 loss on Sunday after White Sox starter John Danks kept Boston hitless...
It would be criminal not to liveblog Will Middlebrooks’s first MLB game, so here it is!
The Sox ended a really productive road trip and were hoping that trend continued as they headed home. Clay Buchholz was on the mound for the Sox. Clay hoped to that this outing would head him in the right direction since he's really struggled this year.
Clay wasn't good. He wasn't bad. All in all, he was meh. Actually, he was pretty good until he hit the...
