The Oakland A's activated left-handed pitcher Brett Anderson from the 60-day disabled list on Monday, and he is scheduled to make his first major-league start of the season on Tuesday against Boston. Anderson had Tommy John surgery performed on his left elbow on July 14, 2011, and he has not pitched in a major-league game since June 5, 2011. He made six appearances, including five starts, for Triple-A Sacramento in his rehab assignment. He was 1-1 with a 4.62 ERA. In 2011, Anderson, 24, went 3-6 with a 4.00 ERA for the A's. The A's also optioned right-handed pitcher Dan Straily to Triple-A Sacramento and designated catcher Anthony Recker for assignment. Straily went 1-0 with a 3.18 ERA in three starts.

Oakland A's turn triple play
Your browser does not support iframes.
The triple play is a rare feat in baseball, but it's not one of those extremely rare moments like the perfect game (well, before the last three years...) or the four homer game. Tuesday night in Oakland, Trevor Plouffe grounded to third baseman Josh Donaldson, who stepped on the bag and fired to second baseman Adam Rosales, who in turn...
A's starter Anderson wins in long-awaited return
Brett Anderson didn't look like a pitcher who hadn't seen a major league mound in over a year. The Oakland Athletics left-hander stymied the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday in his first start of the 2012 season and his first major league start since June 5, 2011 a span of 444 days. Anderson missed most of last year and the majority of this season after having Tommy John surgery...
Athletics send down Weeks to make room for Drew
Oakland newcomer Stephen Drew arrived at the Coliseum a few hours before first pitch to find his name scribbled into Tuesday night's lineup.
The Athletics have no plan of easing their new shortstop into things.
Drew was slated to bat second against the Minnesota Twins in his first game with the A's, less than 24 hours after being acquired in a trade from Arizona in exchange...
Box Score: Athletics 7, Indians 0
It was Bartolo Colon yesterday, and it was another former Indian in Coco Crisp today. Crisp hit a 3-run blast and had 5 total RBI as the Athletics completed the three-game sweep and demolished the Indians 7-0. Justin Masterson got torched for 7 runs and 9 hits in another abysmal outing for our number one starter. Ubaldo Jimenez will face former Indian Kevin Milwood tomorrow night...
Oakland's Anderson set to make first start in more than a year
Brett Anderson officially rejoined the Oakland A's more than 13 months after his July 14, 2011 Tommy John surgery, and he will start Tuesday night's game. The team will welcome another newcomer Tuesday -- the A's acquired shortstop Stephen Drew from Arizona during their 7-2 loss to the Twins on Monday night. Drew, a free agent after the season, was acquired for Class...
A 'Spark' For A's Minor League Hitters
WEST SACRAMENTO, CA - The Oakland A's haven't had a winning season since 2006. It’s no coincidence during those five down years, Oakland has struggled to develop hitters who have succeeded at the major league level. That has changed this season, as the team has received sizable contributions from promoted players such as Brandon Moss, Chris Carter, Derek Norris and most...
A's send Weeks down to Class AAA
Jemile Weeks never pulled out of an extended sophomore slump, and on Tuesday the Oakland A's took unexpected and drastic action: The second baseman, who had a sensational rookie season in 2011, was optioned to Triple-A Sacramento. Weeks, 25, was the one Oakland player considered "untouchable" last winter when the A's traded pitchers such as Trevor Cahill, Gio...
Oakland Athletics acquire Stephen Drew from Diamondbacks
The Oakland Athletics have acquired shortstop Stephen Drew from the Arizona Diamonbacks for infielder Sean Jamieson. The addition of Drew with help fill a need at shortstop for the A’s, as Cliff Pennington and Adam Rosales have failed to provide much offense for manager Bob Melvin.
Drew, a former first round pick by the Diamondbacks in the 2004 amateur draft, is batting just .193...
A's 7, Indians 0
OAKLAND, Calif. -- Coco Crisp hit a three-run homer and had a career-high-tying five RBIs and Jarrod Parker pitched eight shutout innings, giving up four hits, as the Oakland Athletics routed the Cleveland Indians 7-0 on Sunday afternoon. Oakland has won four straight to move to a season-high-tying 10 games over .500 to stay a half game behind Baltimore for the second Wild Card...
Twins-Athletics Preview
After struggling earlier this month, the Oakland Athletics seem to have gotten back on track. Facing the Minnesota Twins could help them keep it going.
The Athletics look to win their fifth straight Monday night when they begin a three-game home series against the slumping Twins.
Oakland (65-55) starts the week a half-game back of the second AL wild-card spot after completing a...
