Brandon McCarthy had kind of a bad day on Tuesday. Starting for the A’s in their Cactus League game against the Cubs, McCarthy allowed four runs (two earned), five hits, three walks in just four innings of work. After the game, McCarthy did what any 28-year-old, male, professional athlete does to de-stress after a tough day: He went to the nail salon.

Actually, the trip was to fix a torn fingernail on the middle finger of his throwing hand, and, if you’ve had a nail injury before, you know it makes everything absolutely worse.

Thankfully, the funnyman McCarthy documented the whole thing on Twitter. He started out tweeting the photo of the broken fingernail accompanied only, somewhat appropriately, by the hashtag “#sports” (I apologize in advance for the blood, but this is part of life, people):

Then, there was an “All better #sports” tweet with a photo of the nail being worked on. You saw that at the top of this post. McCarthy concluded his brief but enlightening Twitter play-by-play of his trip to the nail salon with this synopsis:

Entire nail salon convo: “oooh.” “yep, acrylic nail please”…”burn?” “yep”…”done. Four dollars.” “Thank you”

Let’s just hope he also tipped.
