Found March 05, 2012 on Cub Reporter:
Yordy Cabrera hit Tony Zych’s first pitch over the LF fence for what turned-out to be the game-winning run, as the Oakland A’s rallied from a five-run deficit to edge the Cubs 8-7 in Cactus League action at Dwight Patterson Field at HoHoKam Park in warm & cloudy Mesa, AZ, this afternoon. Ryan Dempster got the start for the Cubs and threw two innings (34 pitches – 23 strikes), allowing one run on two hits (a single and a triple), no walks and two strikeouts, and 2/2 GO/FO. Trailing veteran RHP Bartolo Colon 1-0 going into the bottom of the 2nd, the Cubs took the lead on a Blake DeWitt two-out three-run HR over the RF fence following singles by Jeff Baker and Steve Clevenger. DeWitt was outrighted to AAA last month after the Cubs claimed IF-OF Adrian Cardenas off waivers from Oakland, and (interestingly enough) DeWitt is battling Cardenas for what is probably one roster spot (LH hitting utility INF). Cardenas is younger and more athletic, but DeWitt is the more-experienced hit...

Chicago Cubs Win World Series, Windy City Goes Wild in Commercial for MLB 12 'The Show' (Video)

We all remember the first time we led our favorite team to the championship in franchise mode of a sports video game. We imagined a city full of Sims-like people losing their marbles while our little pixelated figures piled on top of each other on a recreated infield. Well, at least that's what I did. In a commercial for MLB 12 The Show, the city of Chicago erupts with joy when...

Report: Theo Epstein Wants to Limit Cubs' Partying, Nightlife

Well, it looks like another Major League Baseball team is out to limit alcohol and its effects on performance. As newly crowned Chicago Cubs president, Theo Epstein wants his players to get a good night's rest before each game. After all of the news that came out regarding the Red Sox clubhouse this offseason, it seems only fitting that Epstein would impose some sort of regulation...

Carlos Marmol: 2012 Fantasy Baseball Profile, the Closer you want in your corner

Carlos Marmol (credits below) Carlos Marmol and his career K-rate (11.74) will be the third best closer in fantasy baseball in 2012. Sure, he’s blown 22 saves in his career and had a 4.01 ERA last season, but the ERA was an aberration and Tyler Clippard, Francisco Cordero, Brian Wilson and others have all blown at least 17 saves since 2009. Since the 2009 season, Marmol has...

Cubs 11, Rockies 4

Alfonso Soriano hit two home runs and a double to send Dale Sveum and the Chicago Cubs to an 11-4 victory over the Colorado Rockies on Tuesday. It was Sveum's first victory since he was hired to manage the Cubs in November. Soriano led off the Cubs' four-run second inning with a drive that hit halfway up the scoreboard in left field. He led off the third with a double to...

Athletics 12, Cubs 10

Even after a big game in spring training, Brandon Allen knows he still has work to do. If he wants to stick in the majors, he needs to be more consistent. ''I want to smooth some things out,'' Allen said Sunday after what he called the best Cactus League game of his career. Allen belted a grand slam and drove in seven runs, and the Oakland Athletics beat the Cubs...
