(Eds: APNewsNow. Will be updated) By JOSH DUBOW AP Sports Writer When Sean Doolittle started to throw bullpen sessions last summer to distract him from the frustration of another injury that derailed a once-promising career as a slugging first baseman, he never believed the transition from slugger to pitcher would go this smoothly. Just more than nine months after throwing his first pitch as a professional and two months after starting the season in Class-A ball, Doolittle has made it to the majors as a left-handed reliever with the Oakland Athletics. Doolittle was called up from Triple-A Sacramento on Monday to replace the injured Jordan Norberto, completing a remarkable run that started off almost as an accident.

Doolittle More Than Just A Good Story

OAKLAND - When Sean Doolittle was drafted by the Oakland A's in the supplemental first round of the 2007 draft, 2012 appeared like a reasonable time for the first baseman to find himself in the big leagues.

Athletics Fan Catches Foul Ball While on Cell Phone Moments After Just Missing Another Souvenir (Video)

One Athletics fan had a busy night in the stands on Monday. The lucky fan made a nifty grab on a foul ball during the seventh inning of Oakland's victory. The catch came despite him chatting away on his cell phone, and it also came after he just missed out on a previous foul ball moments earlier. The A's blew out the Rangers 12-1 behind a solid effort from rookie Jarrod Parker...

Hatteberg to temporarily replace Fosse as Oakland color commentator

Perhaps hoping to benefit from what little post-Moneyball afterglow remains, the Oakland Athletics announced that they will have former player, and key figure in the Moneyball book and movie, Scott Hatteberg replace long-time color commentator Ray Fosse on TV broadcasts for a 20-game stretch starting June 15th. You're not going to believe this, but the player who famously was...

A's Parker was coming out of game regardless

No-hitter or not, Oakland Athletics manager Bob Melvin prepared himself to pull rookie Jarrod Parker after the eighth inning Monday night. Melvin prepared himself for the boos, but Michael Young's single up the middle for Texas leading off the eighth inning broke up the bid, making the manager's decision all the easier. Parker (2-2) had reached 91 pitches after six innings...

The Platoon Advantage: Oakland is Just Terrible (No Offense) by Jason Wojciechowski

As an A's blogger, I've considered it a point of honor, my sacred duty, really, to avoid writing in this space about the Oaklands. At this point, though, even after a 12-1 whipping of the best team in baseball on Monday, a whipping that included Jarrod Parker carrying a no-hitter into the eighth inning, the team is so bad that I feel compelled to put my misery on display...

Fantasy Baseball Player Profile: Jarrod Parker

The road to the Major Leagues is not always a smooth ride, as many top prospects that appear to be destined for greatness stumble on their quest to make it to the show. Struggles to adjusting to professional baseball in the minor league ranks and incumbent stars blocking a promotion have derailed the careers of many young players, while elbow and shoulder injuries can stunt the growth...

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) -- Rookie Jarrod Parker held Texas hitless until the eighth inning and Brandon Inge drove in four runs in Oakland's eight-run second inning as the Athletics beat the Rangers 12-1 on Monday night. Parker (2-2) easily worked his way through baseball's highest-scoring offense in his ninth career start before Michael Young grounded a single through the middle...
