Yoenis Cespedes returned to the A’s lineup in a huge way Sunday afternoon, smashing a game tying home run with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to force extra innings against the Baltimore Orioles.
Eric Sogard scored the winning run in the tenth inning on a throwing error to third base on a Coco Crisp bunt as the A’s snapped their four game losing streak in a 9-8 victory.
“It tasted good. Tasted great. I had eye protection though, so it didn’t get in my eyes,” said Sogard, the goggled second baseman after being “pied” by resident pie-master Josh Reddick.
The return of Cespedes from the DL couldn’t have come at a better time for Oakland, as they had lost the first three games of the series to Baltimore. The A’s are 83-46 with Cesepedes in the lineup, including 10-2 this season.
