It was expected that the Houston Astros would make some changes as general manager Dana Brown will now have a full offseason to put his stamp on the organization.
While there will be many eyes on the player moves that he will make this winter when free agency begins, Brown has shaken some things up within his front office.
Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports that the Astros have promoted Gavin Dickey to become their assistant general manager.
He has been with Houston since 2011, originally starting as an area scout covering south Texas. His region changed to Georgia and North Florida from 2013-2015, before being promoted to regional cross checker of the Southeast in 2016.
Dickey was named the national cross checker in 2018 before moving into a special assignment scouting role in 2021.
This past season, he was promoted once again and became the special assistant to the GM.
Brown will now officially name Dickey the assistant GM of the Astros.
His scouting background aligns with what Brown had done before moving into his current front office role.Â
Houston's GM served as a scout with the Pittsburgh Pirates for nine years and worked his way up the ladder. He was the vice president of scouting with the Atlanta Braves before being hired into his current role.
Dickey's promotion wasn't the only one that will reportedly happen.
According to Rome, the Astros are also promoting Will Sharp to the role of special assistant to the general manager and Jacob Buffa to senior director of player development.
Sharp held the role of special advisor to baseball operations and Buffa was the director of performance science in 2023.
Buffa will reportedly take over most of Sara Goodrum's responsibilities, who was let go following this season.
There was rumored to be internal movement within the front office this offseason and it seems like Brown is crafting his executives into the way he wants it to look moving forward.
