Mark Berman KRIV-TV Washington Nationals third base coach Bo Porter arrived at Bush Intercontinental Airport on Thursday to interview with Houston Astros officials as the club searches for its next manager. Astros owner Jim Crane picked up Porter at the airport. Both Crane and Porter declined comment to FOX 26 Sports and MLB.com. Porter becomes the first known candidate to interview for the job. He is in his second season as the Nationals third base coach. Porter, who makes his offseason home in Houston, spent one sent on the Major League staff with the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2010. He began that season as the Diamondbacks third base coach, but was promoted to bench coach replacing Kirk Gibson who took over as manager in July. Prior to that Porter was the Miami Marlins third base coach and outfieldbaserunning instructor from 2007-2009. Before joining the Marlins big league staff, he spent two seasons managing and coaching in their farm system, where he began his coaching career in 2005. The following season Porter managed Jamestown in the New York-Penn League and had a 33-39 record. Porter played ten years of professional baseball and spent parts of three seasons in the big leagues with the Chicago White Sox (1999), Oakland A's (2000) and the Texas Rangers (2001). In the 2000 American League Divisional Series with the A's, Porter played in two games with one at bat. He got a hit off of New York Yankees pitcher Dwight Gooden. Porter played in 1064 games during ten seasons in the minor leagues, hitting .269 with 113 home runs, 502 RBIs and 236 stolen bases.
