Found April 24, 2013 on MLB Injury News:
Houston Astros center fielder Justin Maxwell was hit in the left hand during last night’s contest against the Seattle Mariners. While a run scored following the HBP, the pitch also fractured the fifth metacarpal on Maxwell’s hand, according to Brian T. Smith of The Houston Chronicle. Maxwell was disappointed by the injury, but he told reporters that he expects to be back on the field soon enough. “It’s definitely – a play on words – a bad break. But we definitely got the team the win and I’m thankful for that,” said Maxwell, who’ll see a hand specialist Wednesday for further evaluation. “I trust in God’s plan and I’m not worried. I think I’ll be back on the field soon enough.” The Astros wasted no time placing Maxwell on the disabled list. Houston called up outfielder Robbie Grossman to take the 29-year-old’s roster spot. At this point, manager Bo Porter said he’s unsure who will fill the role of Houston’s everyday center fielder. Brandon Barnes and veteran Rick Ankiel are both options on the team’s current roster.
