Astros Prospect Pops Two Homers In Game
USA TODAY Sports

Houston Astros prospect Drew Gilbert had a huge game for High-A Asheville on Tuesday.

Gilbert crushed two home runs in Asheville’s 14-7 victory over Bowling Green. It was the first time in Gilbert’s career that he hit two homers in the same game.

“It was cool,” the 22-year-old Gilbert told reporters. “I wouldn’t necessarily say that’s my game, but I was able to get a couple nice ABs.”

Gilbert, the 28th overall pick in the 2022 draft, is slashing .356/.420/.533. Last season, he played only 10 games after he dislocated his right elbow running into an outfield wall.

It was a difficult injury to come back from. But it sure looks as if Gilbert is trending in a positive direction.

“It's just good to be back playing against some different teams again,” he told reporters. “It's definitely an adjustment going from college to pro ball. Whether it's Low-A or High-A, it's better competition. So that’s been a big adjustment, but you try to make those adjustments as quick as possible and you have the opportunity to do that every single day.”

Keep your eye on Gilbert. He could be on the fast track to the Major Leagues soon.
