It may sound ridiculous for a team still twelve games under .500, but in the last week the Astros have had superb starting pitching and now have a problem. Who deserves to stay in the rotation. Bud Norris off a five inning two earned run start for Oklahoma City has apparently convinced the Astro brass that his knee is fine and he is ready to rejoin the club. The problem is that the pitcher that made his two starts during his time was Dallas Kuechel. All he has done is throw 14 innings with a 1.29 earned run average. His last start on Saturday was the Astros first complete game of the year. Can the Astros send him back to Oklahoma City? The precedent has been set in this regard. Brett Wallace was hitting .333 with two home runs in his stint on the club while Carlos Lee was on the disabled list. That didn't keep the club from sending him back to OKC. There are a myriad of problems in doing what many fans think might be right. It starts with contracts and continues through playe...

Rookie Keuchel has night to remember

HOUSTON Dallas Keuchel answered the questions at a measured clip, ignoring the humorous requests from teammates to remove his hat and jersey top while addressing the media following a serendipitous result. The gravity of the moment should have landed like an anvil by now, yet Keuchel remained composed. The left-hander had just earned his first big-league victory, doing so while...

Morgan inducted into Astros' Walk of Fame

Joe Morgan is the Vice-Chairman of the Board for Baseball's Hall of Fame, so he must be guarded in his remarks about which players deserve to be enshrined, but Morgan was clear about the way the legal system took on Roger Clemens. "The things that happened to (Clemens and Barry Bonds) should not have happened," said Morgan. "I think the government should have...

Memo to Chris Antonetti: Go Get Carlos Lee

I called for Carlos Lee all winter long. The answer to the left field problem just spent the last two days raking Tribe pitching.  This was a guy in the last year of a bad contract, with a proven track record, who hits right-handed with power, and can play outfield or first base. The Astros reportedly wanted to all but give him away, but decided on keeping him to play first base...

Astros' faith in fourth-rounder Ruiz rewarded

HOUSTON -- This was a coordinated effort that, given their blend of decision makers old and new, validated the Astros' sense of accomplishment. As fourth-round pick Rio Ruiz took his hacks during batting practice Monday at Minute Maid Park, buoyed by his beaming family and shrewd advisor Scott Boras, Astros brass passed around the baton of praise. Landing a first-round talent...

Struggles in 5th undo Indians in loss to Astros

HOUSTON (AP) -- Rookie Dallas Keuchel pitched a complete game and J.D Martinez and Jordan Schafer hit consecutive homers in Houston's four-run fifth inning, leading the Astros to an 8-1 win over the Cleveland Indians on Saturday. Keuchel (1-0) allowed six hits and struck out three for his first win in his second major league start. The Astros had scored just one run in the...

Astros' bats lively in win over Indians

HOUSTON (AP) -- Chris Johnson homered and drove in three runs and J.D. Martinez hit a two-run homer to lead the Houston Astros to a 7-1 win over the Cleveland Indians on Sunday. Happ (6-7) got his second consecutive win by allowing four hits and...

First-place Tribe looks to rebound against Astros

The first-place Cleveland Indians witnessed the offensively challenged Houston Astros put a big number on the board during their latest contest, marking their worst performance since Derek Lowe took the mound earlier in the week. Given the way Lowe has been pitching lately - especially against the National League - Houston's lineup could be in for another big day. Lowe looks...

Padres-Astros Preview

Houston Astros left-hander Wandy Rodriguez has one of the highest run-support averages in the NL, but he's also been on the hill for half of his team's shutout losses this season. The way the Astros have started to swing the bats, Rodriguez could be pitching with a cushion in his next outing. Rodriguez looks to win his fourth straight decision over the San Diego Padres...

Box Score: Astros 7, Indians 1

The Indians dropped their second straight to the Astros to lose their interleague series in Houston. As was the case on Saturday, the Tribe got on the board first with a run in the second. But it would be all Houston from there on, as they poured in on in the late innings to cruise to another easy win. Derek Lowe kept it close, giving up three runs but both Nick Hagadone and Esmil...

Box Score: Astros 8, Indians 1

The Indians dropped the second game of their interleague series in Houston by a final of 8-1. The Tribe opened the scoring with a solo shot by Asdrubal Cabrera, but it all came apart for Jeanmar Gomez in the fifth inning and the Astros were well on their way. Dallas Keuchel went the distance for the Astros, allowing just the Cabrera blast. Cleveland AB R H RBI HR BB...

Astros come up short in 10th against Padres

HOUSTON (AP) -- Carlos Quentin hit an RBI double in the 10th inning to lift the San Diego Padres to an 8-7 win over the Houston Astros on Monday night. Chase Headley walked with one out and stole second before Quentin drove him in with a drive to right-center against Brandon Lyon (0-2). San Diego grabbed a 7-6 lead on Jesus Guzman's two-run homer in the eighth inning but Jason...
