Houston Astros relief pitcher Parker Mushinski has been shut down from throwing because of back spasms, according to MLB.com’s Brian McTaggart.
The injury is considered day-to-day.
Mushinski has been experiencing pain in his lower back prior to spring training and he returned to Houston for more tests, McTaggart reported.
Mushinski made seven appearances for the Astros last season and is competing for a spot on their Opening Day roster.
Mushinski gave up five hits and three earned runs in 7 1/3 innings in 2022. He struck out eight and walked three.
