Fox Sports Arizona:
Arizona State has broken off negotiations with the Chicago Cubs and city of Mesa on playing its baseball games at the Cubs' new spring training facility being built in Mesa.
ASU released a statement saying the Cubs had demanded changes to a preliminary agreement that rendered a deal "impossible."
"The changes the Cubs demanded show that they do not value the partnership with ASU," the statement said.
"The new terms became far too costly to the university, imposed too many restrictions on ASUs use of the facility and exposed the university to too great a level of financial liability for the entire complex."
The university said it will being to pursue other stadium options for its baseball program, which currently plays its games on campus at Packard Stadium. It's been speculated that Phoenix Municipal Stadium could become an option for the Sun Devils.

Brett Jackson should be the starting center fielder on Opening Day. That’s the good news. The bad news is the Cubs have already said the good news isn’t the most likely to happen news. The Cubs have said Jackson will start 2013 in Triple-A. Thanks for getting my hopes up, good news! Okay, the not-as-good-as-good news but still good depending on how much you can lie...
Chicago Cubs second baseman Darwin Barney tonight was awarded the 2012 National League Rawlings Gold Glove for defensive excellence at his position, the first Gold Glove of his career and the first by a Cubs second baseman in 21 years.
Barney is the first Cubs player to win a Rawlings Gold Glove since first baseman Derrek Lee in 2007 and the first Cubs second baseman to win the...
The Chicago Cubs today named Anthony Iapoce special assistant to the General Manager/Player Development.
Iapoce, 39, will oversee the club’s minor league hitting program and contribute to additional projects within the organization. He joins the Cubs after spending the last three seasons as the roving hitting coordinator for the Toronto Blue Jays. Prior to joining the Blue...
A day after sending Ervin Santana to the Royals, the Angels traded away another high priced player on Friday, sending ace Dan Haren to the Cubs for Carlos Marmol.
UPDATE: The trade is not complete.
Cubs "losing" a bunch of players to free agency/waivers Team MVP Shawn Camp was the only officially official free agent on the roster, but a few other players have opted for free agency after being kicked off the Cubs 40-man roster. Apparently they don't realize that "cut from the Cubs roster" is not going to [...]
The Twitterverse has exploded with rumors that Carlos Marmol is headed to the Angels for Dan Haren. Money details and confirmation from the Cubs has yet to come.
I should mention that I did call this as the most likely trade for the Cubs in the comments the other day. It might come off as bragging, but I'm really just reminding myself to go buy a lottery ticket.
Arizona State University officials say they've broken off talks with the Chicago Cubs over shared use of a new baseball stadium in Mesa.
Mesa Mayor Scott Smith told The Arizona Republic (http://bit.ly/Rxxtgr) in a story Thursday that he will no longer try to broker an agreement unless the sides show some willingness to come together.
The proposed agreement had been in the works...
According to the Chicago Sun-Times, the Chicago Cubs and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim have agreed on a trade.
The Cubs are sending reliever Carlos Marmol to Anaheim while the Angels are sending Dan Haren to Chicago.
Details on the finances are still coming out, but this deal was likely made because Anaheim was not intending on picking up Haren’s option, while the Cubs obviously...
There are multiple reports that the Cubs and Angels have traded Carlos Marmol for Dan Haren. The Angels seemed reluctant to keep Haren on a $15.5m option year. Per Robothal, the Angels might kick in the $3.5m that they would have had to pay for Haren's buyout. Bruce Levine has confimed the deal, however there are [...]
Dan Haren didn't have a bad year necessarily. He did have a year in which he hit the disabled list for the first time in his career and saw his ERA balloon. The Los Angeles Angels now have to make a decision about Haren, his durability, and his future. Does one injury in a decade-long career mean there will be more to come? Does the anomaly of the 2012 season mean Haren...
Dan Haren was traded to the Chicago Cubs for relief pitcher Carlos Marmol on Friday, ending what was a few days of rumors concerning the future of the former Angels starting pitcher.
Reports stated last month that the Angels were unlikely to retain Haren after the season, and that turned out to be the case. Haren spent two and a half seasons with the Angels after being acquired by...
Details are still trickling out, but it appears that the Angels have finally pulled the trigger on the inevitable Dan Haren trade. Multiple Spanish-language reports claim that Haren has been dealt to the Chicago Cubs for Carlos Marmol.
Carlos Marmol (Cubs) have been traded to the Angels. The pitcher confirms the move to @elcariberd. "Anaheim is a good team".
