Jemile Weeks hit an RBI single to give Oakland the lead during a six-run ninth inning against All-Star closer Jim Johnson, and the Athletics beat the Baltimore Orioles 14-9 on Friday night in a back-and-forth duel that featured 31 hits and lasted four hours. The Athletics led 5-0 in the second inning and 8-6 in the eighth, yet fell behind on each occasion before rallying back. After Baltimore scored three runs in the eighth to go up 9-8, Oakland pounded Johnson (1-1) for six runs on six hits and a walk in the ninth. The Orioles fell to 41-1 when leading after eight innings. Chris Carter and Brandon Hicks homered for the A's, who have won 12 of 14, and Seth Smith tied a career high with five RBIs. Johnson got the first out in the ninth before Carter and Brandon Inge singled. Josh Reddick Injury Update

Oakland A’s outfielder, Josh Reddick, is having a career year batting .272 with 22 homeruns and 50 RBI for his surging ball club.  However, Reddick’s ninth inning collision with the wall in last nights win over the Baltimore Orioles was indeed a scary moment. Reddick was playing right field when he ran back and stretched out to make a diving catch for the games last out.  Reddick’s...

Athletics rally to beat Orioles

A back-and-forth duel that featured 31 hits and lasted four hours was decided by one final outburst by the Oakland Athletics. Jemile Weeks hit an RBI single to give Oakland the lead during a six-run ninth inning against All-Star closer Jim Johnson, and the Athletics beat the Baltimore Orioles 14-9 on Friday night. Thanks mostly to Johnson, the Orioles were 41-0 when leading after...

Josh Reddick Made A Bad Judgement Look Good (Video)

It's not everyday you miss judge a ball and it looks better than if you would have judged it correctly.  Oakland A's outfielder Josh Reddick jumped up to rob a home run ball last night against the Blue Jays and hung on the wall for a couple seconds before the ball got there.  Technically he probably could have just stood on the warning track, but hey then we wouldn'...

Dylan Bundy’s Curveball Curves

Hell of a week for Dylan Bundy. First Sports Illustrated gives him the Tom Verducci treatment. Then it was reported that the O’s plan on moving him to Double-A at 19, just one year out of high school. And now this video of his epic curveball is making the rounds (via The Big Lead). Enjoy it at the 50-second mark, and look forward to it, O’s fans. It may be bending in Baltimore...

BP Unfiltered: Jerry Blevins, Non-Vulture by Sam Miller

On Friday night, Ryan Cook entered the game for the A's in the eighth. He allowed two inherited runners to score and one of his own, blew the lead, and got the final out of the inning. The A's then took the lead back in the ninth. Jerry Blevins replaced him and protected the lead. As you know, Ryan Cook would be credited with the victory. But  Cook was the rule...

Palmeiro inducted into Mississippi Hall of Fame

Rafael Palmeiro is now a member of the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame. He hopes someday Cooperstown comes calling as well. But he's not going to grovel. ''My lobbying was done on the field,'' Palmeiro said. ''That's it. I'm done lobbying. If that's not good enough, I'm not going to beg these writers who have the power of the vote. I...

An Unexpected Battle For The Post-Season

But the two most surprising teams in the American League are in the middle of the race for the post-season and are playing three games in Baltimore this weekend. On Friday, the A's prevailed in a thriller. Chris Biderman...

About Last Night...

Last night’s loss to the Oakland Athletics was understandable; however, it was inexcusable. With the Orioles in Wild Card contention, they gave away a game that should have won. We all know by now that the Orioles lost to the Athletics 14-9, despite two comebacks against perhaps the hottest team in baseball; alas, close Jim Johnson gave up six runs in the top of the ninth. Oakland...
