Tommy Milone allowed three hits over a career-high eight innings in an impressive Oakland debut, and the Athletics beat the Kansas City Royals 1-0 on Monday night. Milone (1-0) faced the minimum in five of his innings, including getting through the fourth despite throwing only two strikes among his 10 pitches. Perhaps for a night, Milone made it easier for the small group of fans who turned out at the Coliseum to picture life without lefty Gio Gonzalez. The A's acquired Milone from the Nationals in December, sending All-Star Gonzalez to the nation's capital. Milone won his sixth career start after the Nationals won all of his five starts last season. Grant Balfour finished the three-hit shutout for his second save in as many chances. Milone started the game by allowing a leadoff double to Jason Bourgeois, who was then thrown out on an impressive double play in which right fielder Josh Reddick caught Lorenzo Cain's liner and fired to third baseman Josh Donaldson, who ...

Danny Duffy Fans 8 In Royals Win

Ok, I'm not going to lie... I went to bed at the rain delay. Yes, I know the game was nearly over, but I just wanted to lay in bed and catch up on the new season of "The Killing". Awesome show, by the way... and the game never restarted, so I dodn't miss anything as the Royals won 3-0 in the rain-shortened game. My early bow-out aside, Danny Duffy kept the streak...

A's Devine out for season after surgery

Oakland Athletics reliever Joey Devine will miss the season after having reconstructive surgery on his right elbow for the second time in three years. The operation was performed in Florida by Dr. James Andrews and is the latest setback for the 28-year-old, already on the disabled list with biceps tendinitis. Manager Bob Melvin didn't disclose details about the surgery while...

A's fans show love to Francoeur on "BACON TUESDAY"

Last season in Spetember, Jeff Francoeur and the 59-83  traveled to Oakland to take on the 64-77 Athletics. At the time it didn’t seem to be a matchup of much significance, however it marked the first ever “Bacon Tuesday” held by A’s fans at the Oakland Coliseum. Francoeur was so moved by this monumental moment in meat eating history, that the next day, as he took the...

What Happened Last Night?

Last night the Royals kicked off their series with the Oakland A's and unless you're a night owl, you probably did stay up to watch it. The Royals lost 1-0 as they wasted a solid first effort by Luis Mendoza, who seems to be trying on the Bruce Chen magic when it comes to pitching. He's getting people out, but we really don't know why. The bigger story in the...

Has Jonathan Broxton Returned To Form?

Many writers scoffed when Ned Yost and the Kansas City Royals handed the closer’s role to right-hander Jonathan Broxton this spring. After all, Broxton is returning from an elbow injury that rendered him ineffective (5.63 FIP) and held him to only 14 appearances last season, while fellow right-hander Greg Holland burst onto the scene in 2011 with an 11.10 K/9 strikeout rate and...

Devine, who was already on the disabled list with biceps tendinitis, had the surgery performed by Dr. James Andrews. The 28-year-old righthander posted a 1-1 mark with a 3.52 ERA in 26 appearances last year. Devine had missed the...

ANAHEIM, Calif. The Kansas City Royals are coming off an impressive series victory thanks in large part to Eric Hosmer. The Oakland Athletics have a good idea what kind of difference the first baseman can make.
