The Oakland Athletics have signed Jonny Gomes to a one-year deal worth around $1.1mm, Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports (Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reported the deal first).

Gomes hit .209 last season with 14 home runs in 372 plate appearances for the Reds and Nationals. Gomes could be used as a platoon player as he has a career .311 avg against left handed pitchers.

The Oakland Athletics and Jonny Gomes were working Thursday to finalize a deal that would provide the team with outfield depth, a person with knowledge of the negotiations said. The person confirmed the pending contract on condition of anonymity because the club had yet to formally announce the acquisition of Gomes, who grew up in nearby Petaluma and is still loved in wine country.
