The Oakland Athletics were once again without outfielder Yoenis Cespedes yesterday as he continues to be hampered by a left wrist injury. Manager Bob Melvin indicated to reporters -- including Jane Lee of MLB.com -- that Cespedes' chances of playing today are slim, making a Wednesday or Thursday return to the lineup more likely for the slugger. Still, Melvin didn't rule out the chance of Cespedes playing today. "If everything goes well, and he doesn't feel any soreness, he'll take batting practice tomorrow," Melvin said. "He did everything in the cage today, from soft toss to tee work, everything but live hitting, and felt good." Melvin recently indicated that Cespedes would have to take swings in the on-field batting cage without experiencing discomfort before he'd be able to rejoin the A's lineup. He didn't experience the soreness that's sidelined him since the start of the second half of the season yesterday, so he could be poised to return today. If not, it sounds like the A's expect to have him back in the lineup before this weekend. Cespedes hasn’t been quite as productive as during his rookie campaign when he hit .292/.356/.505. The 27-year-old’s totals are down across the board, as he’s batting .225/.293/.420 with 11 doubles and 15 home runs over 341 plate appearances. Oakland A’s Jemile Weeks – The Interview

Jemile Weeks has had an up-and-down start (no pun intended) to his professional baseball career.  The former first round pick (12th overall) of the Oakland A’s in the 2008 MLB Draft and younger brother to current Milwaukee Brewers second baseman Rickie Weeks, Jemile is still trying to find his footing after a very promising start to his career. Jemile sailed through the A’s...

The Oakland Athletics: A rocky start to the second half

Dan Straily The Oakland Athletics had a great first half of the MLB season. Even though they wavered a bit in June, they were able to finish strong with a two game lead in the AL West. Since the Athletics are usually a second half team, many were certain that the A’s were on their way to the postseason. However, after starting off the second half of the season with two loses, have...

Athletics’ Yoenis Cespedes likely out Sunday

While Oakland Athletics manager Bob Melvin said outfielder Yoenis Cespedes is available to pinch-run this weekend, he was held out for the second consecutive game last night due to his lingering wrist injury. The same is expected to be the case for the weekend finale, as Melvin told reporters – including AJ Cassavell of MLB.com – that Cespedes will likely not start today’s...

Athletics' Brett Anderson 'amped up' after first bullpen session

You'll have to forgive Brett Anderson if he feels like jumping off the walls after Monday's 35-pitch bullpen session. A stress fracture in his right foot, has sidelined much of his 2013 campaign and truncated a fourth consecutive season for the often-injured lefty. Confined to a walking boot for much of the last two months, the southpaw last appeared in action on April...

Coco Crisp's two-run homer lifts A's past Astros 4-3

The A's wound up making a lot of hard contact this week in Minute Maid Field particularly in Wednesday's 4-3 win over the Astros that saw Coco Crisp deliver a two-run homer in the seventh inning to win it. On Monday Josh Reddick hit a game-winning two-run homer in the eighth. On Tuesday Brandon Moss hit a two-run go-ahead homer in the eighth although the A's bullpen...

NMATV gives us Braun neck injections, A-Rod taking a phallus, Cruz awkward face, Colon winning steroids

We’re all familiar with NMATV by now, right? Well, they threw their hat in the ring on the Biogenesis case, and it’s gonna be useful, I predict. Well, the GIFS are. Ryan Braun with the sneaky neck injection and orgasm face. Alex Rodriguez with the little used/known anal injection with a look of satisfaaction. Nelson Cruz’s bat explodes and he exits slowly. Bartolo Colon...

Athletics 4, Astros 3

There was only one word to describe Oakland's play through four innings on Monday night against the Houston Astros. ''Ugly,'' player after player and manager Bob Melvin said. As ugly as the start was, the Athletics managed to put it behind them and rallied for a 4-3 win. Josh Reddick put Oakland on top with a two-run homer in the eighth inning and the Athletics...

Jaso, Crisp Power A’s Past Astros 4-3, Griffin Earns 9th Win

Following their first loss of the season to the Houston Astros on Tuesday night, the A’s took the field looking to get back to their winning ways for an early get-away day game on Wednesday. A 4-3 victory on the strength of a pair of homers and solid pitching was good enough to put the A’s back in the win-column and finish the road trip 3-3. AJ Griffin, making his third start...

There's Been a Brian Wilson Sighting

Not since Brian Wilson and fellow free agent Dallas Braden hit the "Happiest Place on Earth" has anyone seen the bearded one. Well...stop the presses.  There's been a sighting. According to "sources" (we'll call them ESPN The Magazine and San Jose Mercury News), the former San Francisco closer was back in the city by the bay throwing pitches this...

Bartolo Colon’s Gem, Angels’ Sloppy Defense Spark A’s 6-0 Win

A day after being dominated by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and C.J. Wilson, the Oakland A’s returned the favor on Sunday afternoon behind a complete game shutout from All-Star Bartolo Colon. Matched up against Jerome Williams, Colon was easily the star of the day, mixing his fastballs and occasional off-speed pitches with authority en route to his 13th win of the season....

Josh Reddick’s Late Blast Powers A’s to 4-3 Comeback Win Over Astros

The Oakland A’s dispatched the Houston Astros 4-3 on Monday night for their tenth win against Houston on the season – but it wasn’t easy. The game looked like it was going to be frustrating for Oakland from the get-go: Coco Crisp led off the game with a wringing double against Houston starter Dallas Keuchel but the A’s failed to score, stranding Crisp at second to end the...
