Found April 18, 2013 on Suicide Squeeze:
The Atlanta Braves are 11-1. They just swept the Nationals and won 9-0 last night. Justin Upton is hitting .340 with 7 home runs. Chris Johnson, Paul Maholm, and Jayson Heyward are hot all while Freddie Freeman is on the DL. “It’s early,” manager Fredi Gonzalez said. “I don’t think we’re going to play .998 baseball the rest of the way, but it sure is better than 1-11.” For all of those changing your NL East picks slow it down, only four other teams have accomplished the feat since 2000: the 2002 Cleveland Indians, the 2003 Kansas City Royals and San Francisco Giants, and the 2009 Florida Marlins. Coincidentally, of those four teams, only the Giants reached the post-season. In fact, the other three won 87 games or fewer. A hot start is no guarantee of long-term success. Don’t believe me? Justin Upton talks fast start for the Atlanta Braves

The Atlanta Braves made a series of power moves in the off-season and they are paying off.  The headlines stated early that Justin Upton and his brother BJ would make a huge difference for the club both in the outfield and at the plate. The team is riding a  10-game winning streak that is its longest since they  won 15 straight in the spring of 2000.   Please click here to...

Justin Upton's latest homer prompts tweet of the week

The Arizona Diamondbacks wanted to get rid of Justin Upton in the worst way. He simply did not fit into Kirk Gibson and the front office's philosophy of gritty guys digging deep for wins. The Diamondbacks wanted gamers. They wanted guys with dirty uniforms and so on and so forth. We can all make fun of those ideals if we want. Most of us know that it is talent and performance...

Atlanta Braves Fans are More Than Happy with Justin Upton

When the Braves traded for Justin Upton the Diamondbacks fans were not sorry to see him go. He didn't suck (D-backs fans may say differently, but his numbers are okay), but he just wasn't the player they thought he was going to be (I'm assuming). Like he has been for Atlanta. Playing with his brother seems to be agreeing with Justin, because since he has joined...

Three Cuts: Upton, Gattis power Braves to win

The Braves put themselves back on the right track with a 6-4 win over the Pirates Thursday night Here are three observations from the game: 1. Justin Upton is baseball's Energizer bunny this month He just keeps going and going and going and going Both Upton brothers Justin and B.J. sent baseball flying out of PNC Park Thursday night, but it was Justin who stole the show...

Braves beat Royals, win 10th in row

Justin Upton loves playing for a team with so many sluggers. Now in his third week with the Atlanta Braves, Upton looks around the clubhouse and sees a solid starting rotation, a dependable bullpen and power -- lots and lots of power. ''It's fun when you can do that,'' Upton said. ''But our goal is to go out and play good baseball every night, pitch...

Homers Of The Week: Ramos & Upton pimp homers, Upton also hits a ball very far

Wilson Ramos and Justin Upton tie for the best homer pimp of the week. —– Evan Gattis’ first MLB hit, homer, and bat flip —– So yeah … that happened. Anthony Rizzo came close to hitting it into the water… …Carlos Gonzalez did.

Upton, Heyward struggling at plate

With the Tomahawk Chop alive and well in Turner Field, a few readers have ridiculed my ominous forecast for the Atlanta outfield in our annual fantasy baseball predictions piece. Certainly Justin Upton's impersonation of Roy Hobbs (.333 average, eight homers, 12 RBI) isn't helping the cause. As I wrote in the preview, why was Arizona so keen on giving up a 25-year-old who...

Week 2 National League Headlines

Week 2 National League Headlines Paul Maholm’s Hot start- Former Pirate and Cub Maholm has been dominant in his first three starts without giving up a run and registering a 3-0 record.  Maholm registered 20 strikeouts to 5 walks so far which is a very impressive four strikeouts per one walk rate. He has been just one of the many bright spots on the 12-2 Braves in this young...

Atlanta Braves keep rolling, win 10th by defeating the Kansas City Royals

The Atlanta Braves returned home for a quick two-game stand with the Kansas City Royals. Atlanta is the hottest team in baseball right now and the win streak has now hit 10 straight for the Braves with a 6-3 victory. While pitching has been a major reason that the Braves hold the best record in baseball, the offense opened up on Tuesday night as Atlanta belted five solo home runs...

2013 Braves Intro Songs – Now in App Form

Hi Lovvies, For the last few years, I've kept a running list of the Braves' intro songs. Thank goodness there's no need to do it this year - it was a very time-consuming task. It did bring me some website traffic, which I appreciate, but let's all use MLB's In The Ballpark app going forward, okay? Here's how I got to the song list. I have a Google Nexus 4...

NL East Report: Stanton Hurt, Maholm’s Scoreless Streak, Halladay Rebounds

KEEP YOUR ENEMIES CLOSER! Team News and Notes Atlanta Braves (12-1) The Braves continue to plow over any team in their way, as they are thoroughly dominating their opponents and remain in first place in the NL East. The Braves tomahawked the reigning NL East champs in Washington this past weekend, with a clean sweep of their three game series, while outscoring them to the tune of...

Royals can't answer streaking Braves in loss

ATLANTA (AP) -- Jason Heyward, Justin Upton and Dan Uggla homered in the eighth inning, and Juan Francisco hit a pair of solo shots earlier in the game to help the Atlanta Braves win their 10th straight with a 6-3 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday night. Atlanta's 10-game winning streak is its longest since the club won 15 straight from April 15-May 2, 2000. The...

The Rubber, Week Three: What To Do With Surprising ERA Leaders

Source: Brian Kersey/Getty Images North America Here are the owners of the four lowest ERAs in the major leagues: Paul Maholm, Jake Westbrook, Clay Buchholz, and Carlos Villanueva. Obviously, they are going to give up runs at rate higher than that in which they have done so to this point. But which ones are going to do so at a rate acceptable enough to continue to roster them? And...

There Is A Very Real Chance That The Braves Have Already Won The NL East

They Hit The Ball Real Hard Tonight in Atlanta, the Braves won their 10th straight game with a late power barrage -- Justin Upton, Jason Heyward and Dan Uggla -- to move to 12-1. Their only loss this year was to Cliff Lee; they've beaten everyone else they've faced. And the thing about hot starts like this is that they frequently speak to a team that really is at a different...

Game 15: Braves 6 Pirates 4

For almost the entire night, the Pirates had to play catch up in this game against the Braves. For most of the game, they did just that. BJ Upton lead the game off with a home run, the Pirates tied it on a sac fly. After the Pirates took a 2-1 lead on a long Russell Martin home run, the Braves took a 3-2 lead on a Chris Johnson homer. The Pirates tied the game back up on a moster...
