Alex Avila won the American League's Silver Slugger award for catchers Wednesday night, ending a two-day losing streak for the Tigers. Avila and Austin Jackson lost on out on Gold Gloves on Tuesday, while Miguel Cabrera, Jhonny Peralta and Victor Martinez were losing finalists for Silver Slugger awards. Avila went from a backup catcher to starting in the All-Star Game at the age of 24. He finished the season with a .295 batting average -- 67 points higher than 2010 -- with 19 homers and 82 RBIs. His 73 walks helped him to a .389 on-base percentage and 33 doubles gave him a .506 slugging percentage.
