Baggs has been the Giants correspondent for Baseball America for the past six years.

Andrew Baggarly, the Giants beat writer for The San Jose Mercury News, has listed Class-A outfielder Gary Brown as the team’s top prospect in a new Top 10 list for Baseball America.

Baggs’ list is not much different from the one I published a month ago, on Nov. 15 (which can be found here).

Here’s the side-by-side comparison of my and Baggs’ top 10 Giants prospects:

  • Gary Brown – Baggs No. 1, 22gigantes No. 1
  • Tommy Joseph — Baggs No. 2, 22gigantes No. 3
  • Heath Hembree — Baggs No. 3, 22gigantes No. 9
  • Joe Panik — Baggs No. 4, 22gigantes No. 2
  • Francisco Peguero — Baggs No. 5, 22gigantes No. 4
  • Andrew Susac — Baggs No. 6, 22gigantes No. 5
  • Eric Surkamp — Baggs No. 7, 22gigantes (I didn’t put any players with Major League experience on my list)
  • Kyle Crick — Baggs No. 8, 22gigantes No. 6
  • Ehire Adrianza — Baggs No. 9, 22gigantes No. 7
  • Hector Sanchez — Baggs No. 10, 22gigantes (I didn’t put any players with Major League experience on my list)

I’d be curious to see Baggarly’s extended list. (You can purchase “The 2012 Baseball America Prospect Handbook” from Baseball America, which reveals Baggs’ Top 30 Giants prospects, for $33 — or better yet, get it at Amazon for $21). My list is 22 players long and gives you a little deeper look at each player, too. But I digress.

Back to Bagg’s Baseball America article…

Along with his list of top prospects, he lists the Giants prospects with the best tools. For instance, he named Brown “Best Athlete” and says the organization’s best fastball belongs to Hembree. Chris Dominguez, Baggs says, is the best power-hitting prospect in the Giants’ system. (I disagree. I would give that distinction to Ricky Oropesa, myself.)

Baggs, whose narrative on the subject can be found here, also gives his projection for the Giants’ 2015 starting lineup.

All in all, a pretty cool read from the Giants’ beat writer.
