When are we finally going to realize that Buck Showalter is not only the best manager in the game today, but quite possibly the greatest manager of all time!?  Buck is best known for building up franchises with mediocre players and bringing them to the playoffs.  Maybe even better known for his brief stints with the Yankees and Diamondbacks who both won World Series titles a year after Buck's departure.  These teams didn't win despite him, yet as a result of the winning attitude and winning style of baseball Buck instilled before he left. As a matter of fact, Showalter basically did the same thing with the Texas Rangers.  He spent 4 years in Texas making the Rangers relevant once again.  Now the Rangers are back to back AL champs.  Now with the Baltimore Orioles, a team that hasn't sniffed the playoffs in over a decade, is back in the AL East race with once again mediocre players that you couldn't identify in a lineup.  Most of these guys can be easily confuse...

Reynolds powers O’s to series win in New York; Birds two back of Yanks

For most of the 2012 season, Mark Reynolds was a disappointment. His production – 12 HR 42 RBI entering Friday’s game – was way down from what he did in 2011, when he hit 37 home runs and drove in 86 runs, both team highs. However, he has recently been a very pleasant surprise as a first baseman, solidifying the position defensively, while not quite putting up the kind of numbers...

Individual Performances Leading Team Effort on Charge to the Top

On July 18th, the Orioles were 2.5 games out of the AL Wild Card spot and 10 full games back on the Yankees for the AL East title. Today, they started the day in possession one of the wild card spots and a single game behind the Yankees for the division lead going 29-15 over that stretch. While this has been an improbable team effort, there are some great individual efforts that have...

Orioles' Tillman leaves game with elbow stiffness

Baltimore Orioles starting pitcher Chris Tillman left Sunday's game against the Yankees after three innings because of stiffness in his right elbow. Tillman's velocity was down and he issued a walk in each of the first two innings, with Chris Dickerson belting a two-run homer in the second. The severity of the injury was not immediately known, but losing Tillman for...

The Baltimore Orioles Are Defying Baseball Logic

It’ September 4th, and the Orioles find themselves one game out of first place in the American League East. That statement, on it’s own, isn’t too ridiculous. It’s when you start looking at the stats that make that statement look ridiculous. The Orioles are not a good baseball team according to the stats. In fact, if you were to look at the league statistical rankings, before...

O's Hammel expected to start Thursday

Baltimore Orioles right-hander Jason Hammel is expected to come off the 15-day disabled list Thursday to start the opener of an important four-game series against the New York Yankees. Hammel had a successful bullpen session in Toronto on Tuesday. He hasn't appeared in a major league game since July 13, when he left a start against Detroit with pain in his right knee. He underwent...

After Dropping Series To Orioles, Joe Girardi Deserves A Swift Kick In The Nuts

The New York Yankees owe a debt of gratitude to J.J. Hardy of the Baltimore Orioles. Had it not been for his error in Saturday's game at the Stadium, the Yankees might have been swept by the Birds, and would be sharing the AL division lead going into today's action. As it is now, the lead is 2 games, and it is entirely possible that the Yankees could be in second (or even...

O’s move into tie for first place – in September

Take a look at this. Now, look at the date on your calendar (phone, desktop, whatever). Now look back at the standings. That’s right. It’s September 4th(or 5th, before 7 P.M. for the above numbers to retain accuracy), and your Baltimore Orioles are in a dead heat for first place in the American League East. The Birds are 24-10 over their past 34 games (best in baseball), and...

Orioles-Blue Jays Preview

The Baltimore Orioles could use a better effort from Joe Saunders as they try to continue an improbable surge toward the top of the AL East. The recently-acquired left-hander will try to bounce back from a difficult Baltimore debut Monday when the Orioles open a three-game road set against the Toronto Blue Jays. Baltimore (74-59) was third in the East and 7 1/2 games behind the...

Saunders Pitches Gem & Helps O's in Toronto; Believing...

Wow, it is an amazing time to be a baseball fan here in the region. If you told me in March that that the Orioles would be contenders and would be a game out of the American League East after Labor Day, I would have laughed you out of a room. I – and many others – was against Major League Baseball instituting a second wild card. I even didn’t consider the Orioles in the...

Reynolds powers O's into tie for first

Mark Reynolds hit a three-run homer, Zach Britton pitched seven innings to win his fourth straight start and the surging Baltimore Orioles pounded the Toronto Blue Jays 12-0 on Tuesday night.

Tied for first

The Baltimore Orioles. Are currently tied for first place in the American League East. There really isn't anything else to say.   The Orioles are tied for first.   With a win tomorrow the Orioles, at worst, will open their final series with the Yankees tied for first place. There is a legitimate chance that the Orioles could be in sole possession of first place at the...
