Last night the Baltimore Orioles brass announced Manny Machado would be called up. Drafted 3rd overall by Baltimore in 2010, Machado has been impressing in the minors since his debut.
With a skill set that has drawn comparisons to Alex Rodriguez, there is a definite excitement surrounding Machado. But as is expected, this decision has its naysayers.
Heading into the trade deadline it was made clear by the Orioles that they would not be moving Machado or pitcher Dylan Bundy. These two prospects were deemed too important to trade, possibly ruining big name acquisition for Baltimore.
With this in mind it does seem a bit odd that Machado is being called up. At only 20 years old he is the youngest player to be called up by the Orioles since Hayden Penn in 2005. Typically at this young age players are left to develop in the minors and not rushed into the big leagues.
This season though it seems like that trend may be failing by the way side. With the call up, and success, of Bryce Harper ...

Baltimore Orioles pitcher Steve Johnson earned his first major league victory Wednesday night, 23 years to the day after his father notched his first big league win.
Well, this is unexpected and reeks of a desperation move: the Baltimore Orioles are calling up Manny Machado, their top pick from the 2010 draft (third overall) and the second best prospect in the organization. Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun surmises that Machado will be playing third in the majors due to the presence of JJ Hardy at short.
The 20-year old Machado has spent...
Last night, in front of an announced crowd of 21,226 at Camden Yards, the Orioles’ top position prospect Manny Machado made his big league debut.
Unfortunately, before many of those 21+ thousand fans had even had a chance to find their seats, the Birds were in a 4-0 hole.
Starter Wei-Yin Chen, who has been the team’s most reliable starter all season, was touched up...
After last night’s victory over the Mariners, the Orioles announced they were calling up top prospect Manny Machado from Double-A and giving him the third base job for the stretch run. Wilson Betemit hasn’t been a total disaster, posting a 100 wRC+ in 356 plate appearances, but he’s one of the worst defensive players in baseball and is dreadful against lefties, so moving him...
Hear that sound? It's all the doubters climbing on the bandwagon. That's what happens when a highly touted 20-year-old in his second big league game unloads for two home
runs and four RBIs. Manny Machado -- promoted to the Orioles Thursday to play an unnatural position for a club in the
playoff hunt -- launched himself into Orioles lore, just as he touched off a pair...
I have to say, I'm not completely enamored with the Orioles calling up Manny Machado today. He's a great prospect - hitting well in Double-A (the .266/.352/.438 line doesn't look earth-shattering, but it's well above average in context as noted by his 122 wRC+) and having only just turned 20 - but, well, he only has a partial season at Double-A and he only just turned...
Steve Johnson struck out nine over six innings in his first major league start, Matt Wieters tied a career high with five RBIs and the Baltimore Orioles beat the Seattle Mariners 9-2 Wednesday night for a three-game sweep.
Nick Markakis and Mark Reynolds homered and Adam Jones had three hits for the Orioles, who have won five straight and eight of 10. It was Baltimore's 60th...
The Baltimore Orioles have been confounding sabermetricians and national pundits all year. The Orioles currently sit eight games over .500 and tied for the second wild card spot even though they have been outscored this year. And not just outscored, but outscored badly. The Orioles current run differential is currently -54 (455-509), that is awful. It is one of the worst run differentials...
The Baltimore Orioles nice five-game win streak came to an end as they lost to the Kansas City Royals, 8-2. This was the first contest in a four-game set.
Wei-Yin Chen should be considered the ace of the Orioles, as he has been nothing short of phenomenal in the last two starts; however, on Thursday night, he got hit hard – very hard.
The Orioles got punished by the Royals early...
Today begins a new era for the Baltimore Orioles. This evening Manny Machado will start third base and bat ninth for the Birds.
If you stayed up late last night the word rang out through the twitter-verse and frankly I couldn't believe it. I didn't believe it at first. After reading this story earlier this month I thought initially that the Orioles' twitter account...
Yesterday Manny Machado made his major league debut for the Baltimore Orioles after being called up from the team’s Double-A affiliate the Bowie Baysox. The 20-year old infielder, who was ranked by Baseball America as the #11 prospect heading into 2012, went 2-4 with his first hit being a triple. He also scored one [...]

Machado will make his first MLB start for the Orioles tonight
While most of the beltway has had their heads turned by the great year the Washington Nationals have been having, another large group of DMV natives have just been waiting for RGIII to make his debut.
Then there is this little small group of people who have stayed focused on the...
BALTIMORE (AP) -- Luke Hochevar threw 90 pitches, 87 of which he found satisfactory. The other three cost him dearly.
Hochevar yielded three home runs and didn't make it out of the sixth inning in the Kansas City Royals' 7-1 loss to the Baltimore Orioles on Friday night.
In his previous 22 starts, Hochevar (7-10) gave up a total of 13 homers. In this one, Omar Quintanilla...

The Headline: after 14 innings, an Adam Jones walk off single seals the deal for a Mariners loss.

A young and talented roster is looking to lead the Baltimore Orioles to their first playoff appearance since 1997, when the latest addition to the team was only 5 years old.
Manny Machado, Baltimore's top prospect, is expected to make his major league debut Thursday night when the Orioles go for a season-high sixth straight win in the opener of a four-game series against the...
