PLAYERS: Chris Davis
TEAMS: Baltimore Orioles
With all of Major League Baseball focused on the potential Triple Crown repeat of Miguel Cabrera, the first baseman for the Baltimore Orioles, Chris Davis, is quietly having a season to rival Cabrera’s. Davis is currently first in home runs, second in batting average and second in runs driven in, with Cabrera second, first, and first and those respective categories. With Cabrera bringing in runs on an historic pace, and following up his MVP and Triple Crown season with possibly another one, Davis is sneaking up on him in all three Triple Crown categories. With two months down in the season, Chris Davis has already smashed 20 home runs, and is currently on pace to hit 50 or more jacks over the course of the season. The Orioles franchise record for home runs in one season is exactly at 50, accomplished by Brady Anderson in 1996. Last year, Davis hit 33 homers, with 19 of them coming over the course of 67 games comprising the second half of the season. In Davis’ first two seasons, he m...

Can the Baltimore Orioles keep up their recent success?

Can the success last? That’s the question that all Baltimore Orioles fans have to be asking themselves right about now, a day after the birds completed yet another late comeback to beat the Tigers 4-2, as Chris Davis hit is league-leading 20th homer of the season and Nate McLouth was once again “McClutch”, driving in 2 runs in the 7th to give the O’s the lead. The win gave...

Seven Orioles among early voting leaders for 2013 All-Star Game

Here's an interesting press release from the Baltimore Orioles about the MLB All-Star Game voting. I guess the results are a byproduct of winning and increased national profile of the Orioles. In addition, the fans have been coming back to Camden Yards and I assume ramping up the results so far. Keep stuffing the ballots, everyone. Link to the voting results so far...

Can Zach Britton Turn the Tide?

Zach Britton was supposed to be the Fourth Horseman. He was supposed to combine with Brian Matusz, Jake Arrieta, and Chris Tillman to form a stalwart rotation able enough to take down the AL East superpowers. TINSTAAPP rules, of course, then took effect. Matusz is now in the bullpen. Arrieta is back in Triple-A, and he may end up in the bullpen. Tillman lost his velocity and his...

Steady Davis gets into a HR groove for Orioles

Chris Davis is living up to the nickname he was tagged with five years ago during his rookie season with the Texas Rangers. The moniker ''Crush Davis'' has never been more appropriate for the Baltimore Orioles first baseman. Davis leads the majors with 20 home runs, ranks second with 52 RBIs and is batting .357. He had 33 homers last year, but this season the he...

Yankees Fan Injured at Baltimore Orioles Game Now in Critical Condition

This is the kind of story that never should have happened, but is starting to become all too common--stupid, senseless, and now possibly fatal violence in the stands at a ball game. Back on May 29 a man by the name of Matt Fortese was at the Orioles/Nationals game at Camden Yards wearing a Yankees cap. No big deal, right? They aren't playing and their merchandise is pretty...

Orioles' Wei-Yin Chen throws 25 pitches pain-free

The Baltimore Orioles got Taylor Teagarden back yesterday, and they may be getting other reinforcements soon.  Wei-Yin Chen, who is on the disabled list with an oblique strain, is making progress in his rehab.  The first big hurdle was cleared yesterday as he threw from 65-70 feet. Brittany Ghiroli of MLB.com says Chen threw 25 pitches yesterday and felt no pain.  He will...

Adam Jones wears ginormous hat after Orioles mascot drops it in dugout (video)

During the seventh inning of the tilt between the Baltimore Orioles and Detroit Tigers on Monday at Oriole Park at Camden Yards, the Oriole Bird, the fittingly named mascot of the hometown team, dropped his ginormous cap as he held the American flag during a rendition of “God Bless America.” The huge hat ended [...]The post Adam Jones wears ginormous hat after Orioles mascot...

Orioles' Prospect Dylan Bundy cleared to resume throwing

Baltimore Orioles pitching prospect Dylan Bundy will soon begin preparations to return to game action. MASN Sports.com's Roch Kubatko reports that Bundy received permission from team physicians to begin a throwing program on June 10. This was the same day that the Orioles projected for Bundy's return, which puts the right-hander right on schedule. Kubatko also shared...

Orioles 4, Astros 1

Baltimore starter Chris Tillman swears he enjoys pitching at Camden Yards. With the success he's had away from there this season, he might be starting to hope his spot in the rotation always comes up on the road. Tillman threw seven solid innings and the Orioles ended Houston's six-game winning streak with a 4-1 win over the Astros on Tuesday night. Tillman (5-3) allowed...

Orioles Win Against Houston and the Attack of a fan at Camden Yards Last Week...

Last night, the Baltimore Orioles defeated the Houston Astros, 4-1, in the first game of their series. Chris Tillman had a good night on the mound, allowing one run in eight innings; meanwhile, Danny Valencia homered and Manny Machado along with J.J. Hardy each plated in runs. Jim Johnson earned his 19th save of the season. The Astros - pegged universally to be all types...

Orioles rumors: Cliff Lee, Matt Garza, Yovani Gallardo

The Baltimore Orioles are reportedly interested in adding a starting pitcher to their questionable rotation, and not just any arm but one that can slide into the top of their rotation. Despite these rumors, Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports the team is not interested in three of the top pitchers that could be available this summer, including Cliff Lee, Matt Garza and Yovani Gallardo...

Fantasy Fox: 7 hitters to ride for Week 10

The following countdown details seven hitters some stars, some unsung who are solid candidates for sizable fantasy numbers during Week 10 (June 3-9): 3B Manny Machado, Orioles 1. For the GMs who don't own Chris Davis (20 HR, 52 RBI, .357 batting in just 56 games), Machado serves as a wonderful consolation prize for Week 10. He draws six road dates with the Astros and Rays...

Orioles-Astros Preview

The Houston Astros sure aren't playing like the team with the worst record in the AL. Back home after a perfect road trip, Houston will try to extend its winning streak to seven when it faces the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday night. The Astros (21-37) have a ways to go before they can start thinking about reaching the .500 mark, but Houston has the longest current winning streak...
