With less than one week of games remaining in the dog days of August, the Baltimore Orioles are in the middle of two of baseball’s closest races, the battle for the American League East and the AL Wild Card.
Here is a breakdown of the current races:
1. AL Wild Card
Following a series victory against the Oakland Athletics, the Orioles are two games behind the A’s for the second Wild Card spot. The Cleveland Indians are a 1.5, the New York Yankees are 3.5 games behind, and the Tampa Bay Rays have a 2.5 game lead for the top Wild Card spot.
2. AL East
The Orioles trail the Boston Red Sox by five games in the division (Boston is playing Los Angeles in L.A. tonight). The Rays are second in the East trailing the Red Sox by half a game. And the Orioles and Yankees are separated by 1...

Six days from now the Orioles can expand their roster to 40. They may not use the 15 available roster spots as they nearly did last season but they’re likely to use more than a handful.
With Norfolk still in a playoff race the Orioles don’t want to plunder the Tides but they’ll probably summon at least a few by Sunday. When Norfolk’s season ends they’ll bring up a few...
When you consistently have a top 5 pick in the MLB draft, finding talent is rather easy. The Baltimore Orioles have had mixed results with their past ten first round draft picks, but a stretch of six straight top 5 picks produced several quality players. The years of futility for the Orioles look to be finally paying off, as they have some of the best young talent in the majors...
The Orioles haven’t gone on a long winning streak. With five weeks to go in the regular season and a host of games to play against difficult opponents they’ll have to go on a lengthy roll.
They hope Sunday was its start.
With timely hits and aggressive baserunning the Orioles easily beat the Oakland Athletics 10-3 before 33820 at Oriole Park.
The Orioles (70-59) took two of...
Chris Tillman picked an awful time to come up with one of his best pitching performances of the season.
Tillman allowed Oakland only one run and three hits in eight innings, yet the Orioles right-hander walked off the mound for the final time with the score tied.
In the ninth, Coco Crisp hit a leadoff homer off reliever Darren O'Day to give the Athletics a 2-1 victory.
Chris Davis had two hits and collected his 118th RBI, and the Baltimore Orioles hit three home runs in a 10-3 rout of the Oakland Athletics on Sunday.
J.J. Hardy, Nick Markakis and Nate McLouth connected for the Orioles, who took two of three from Oakland to move within two games of the Athletics in the race for the second AL wild-card slot.
Oakland had gone 105 straight games...
Only Chris Davis stands between Miguel Cabrera and baseball history.
As he heads toward the conclusion of another sensational season with the Detroit Tigers, Cabrera has a decent shot at becoming the first major league player to win the Triple Crown in successive seasons.
Entering play Monday, Cabrera comfortably led the AL with a .356 batting average, 28 points higher than runner...
Jarrod Parker threw another gem on Saturday afternoon in Baltimore, holding the Orioles to one run on five hits in eight innings.
Coco Crisp, continuing his offensive tear, made sure the A’s right-hander picked up his tenth win of the season with a big go-ahead home run against Orioles reliever Darren O’Day in the ninth inning.
The A’s had trouble mustering much offense against...
This post is gonna be quick. And it’s gonna be to the point.
Fact is it seems like the Orioles have had our number for so long, I almost can’t remember a time when Buck Showalter wasn’t grinning and rubbing his hands in the opposing team’s dugout, nodding in approval as his team dropkicks ours out of the standings.
No more, I say.
I want all three of these games. I want...
